Re: Branch Topic: Scrying

Fair enough. If you choose not to understand why a divination specialist wizard would value scrying I don't think there's any point in going further here.

Re: Branch Topic: Scrying

hyper-reliance on a singular mechanical aspect of a character is something i'd recommend avoiding as best practice. it'd be weird if someone was dedicated solely to send illusions, or dedicated solely to pickpocketing, or quarter breaking, to the extent that they felt stymied on a character-harming...

Re: Specialist Wizards

Just a couple of notes: I wouldn't mind seeing Enchantment get high bonus to DCs. If I'm investing into mind controlling mobs I want to be sure it will work. Perhaps an increasing chance to break through an enemy's clarity or mind blank too? Also Good Hope as a signature spell doesn't seem on the l...

Re: Cavalier Weapon Expansion Feedback Megathread

I don’t expect you to feel guilt! But I hope you understand the frustration to make a new character I’m excited about and then see oh, it will be a 10 level class now. So I’ll set it aside until I see if the build works or not. It’s cool. Literally , easy come easy go- it was a free character I play...

Re: Cavalier Weapon Expansion Feedback Megathread

I wish I'd have known Cavaliers would be changed before I spent my level 14 award on something that likely won't work at all soon (Ftr/EKD/Cav won't fly if you need 10 cavalier levels!) I would echo, can you give us any indication what you are thinking so existing cavaliers would be able to have an ...

Re: Specialist Wizards

There are times you want a long scrying session. Watching a meeting, for one.

Ideally specialists could just have a choice. Like "-scry" for the standing length, "-scry long" for extended.

Re: Surface evil PvP Observations

Still a little annoying for there to be a big glaring wall between "Good and Evil" and I really feel RP should be less about taking sides and more about how each individual character interacts with each other, but it is what it is. This kind of community storytelling without singular vision doesn’t...

Re: Specialist Wizards

"Grouping up" is always an option but there's an element of scolding solo activity when people say that so let's leave that out of it? Finding a party 100% of the time is not possible even for the most social of us. Wizards need reliable access to a summon, that's an expected part of the class. Scro...

Re: Specialist Wizards

I want to suggest making Gate and the Planar Bindings agnostic to spell school. I don’t mind so many schools banning conjugation otherwise but the lack of any summons besides undead is overly punishing to non-evil. I think these spells that give away your alignment (or require maintenance otherwise)...

Re: Specialist Wizards

There's a bit of a good/evil problem with summons. Evil can give up conjuration and use undead, they're just as good and mummy dust is great. Good gives up conjuration and what do they have? Mordenkeinen's sword, basically. Or henchmen and golems. So yeah, having so many specialist schools give up c...

Re: Surface evil PvP Observations

Personally have zero problem with level 30s trying to do antagonist RP in places like Brambles with some caveats- make it interactive - let the other player have choices in what they can do give outs - have one of those choices being able to escape PVP make it unique - don't do it repetitively for ...

Re: Guldorand server and Normal Awards

A free normal award will be granted to any NWN player (CD key) that logs in during our launch event weekend, running from this Friday (The 12th) to the following Monday (The 15th). I assume this will be done elsewhere but would someone provide the GMT hours this will be applicable as well as the da...

Re: Surface evil PvP Observations

Levels are OOC info, but we have to be honest-- when you go to a writ area you have a very good sense of the level range other players will be and you have a very good sense of what they are there to do. If you're a level 30 hanging around in a level 15 area you know OOC you'll be dictating the term...

Re: Two races with total aversion to the sun

Light sensitivity is a tool used to guide us to play certain ways but there's more to it than that alone. It's not good for the server if drow get too active or comfortable on the surface and as they're a powerful and very popular (and populous) race there's been a lot more pushing of boundaries wit...

Re: Tips on recruiting for a faction

It's a little taboo to say this but going to Discord general chat and various channels with like-minded people and recruiting people OOC to roll new characters may work better than recruiting IG at this stage of Arelith's life. One thing about factions is players who've been around a while usually k...

Re: Sibayad Portal

You can write ten more paragraphs justifying why monster PCs could be there and it will all makes sense and I am not going argue any of it. But it's also beside the point. I'm talking purely about module design. End of the day, this is a game and you have to look at the mechanics as well as the lore...

Re: Question on free award and lv 14 character...

That entirely goes against the premise of finalizing characters' and their stories. But isn't this question about using the free normal award we're all getting (or a normal award from a DIFFERENT sacrificed character) to remake someone now existing who is deleted below level 16 so they can be remad...

Well, aren’t I just fifty shades of stupid? How the hell have I missed that? Odd that a god of what basically encompasses the Halfling rogue cliches can be LN. Tres bizarre.
It's even odder that Brando clerics can't be CG. But, you can't argue with rulebooks printed 20 years ago.

Re: Henchmen restriction.

The idea of speaking through the named henchmen is a little odd, just because they'll be like puppets passed around to different puppetmasters with no continuity. Not the biggest problem in the world but I'd think generic henchmen would be better for this.

Re: Henchmen restriction.

Allow ways to get a henchman besides leadership skill and nobility? It seems natural that if you're a citizen of a settlement or part of a major guildhouse you could have easy access to themed henchmen in those places (and only there.) Or, as these henchmen have backgrounds it also seems natural the...

We do not to get to decided that this is a tiny shanty little tent town that said I can't enter so it can be destroyed easily. It's not a shanty tent town, either. It's an open marketplace as you'd seen in many cities in Asia and Africa but there are lavish buildings and the powers that be would ha...

I seriously doubt that’s “by design.” An unintentional byproduct of the design, sure, but unless some dev comes in and says otherwise I am not going to believe they put a portal there to draw level 26-30 Anundor types to grind a level 16-20 surfacer writ area (and wreck those surfacers who dare be t...

I suspect high-epic Anundor gangs grinding the orcs and pvping surfacers on writs and 10 levels lower than them is as big a problem as their visiting the city itself. I'm for monsters having a place on the surface and agree they're there for more reasons than to raid but I never experience more rand...

Re: Whipping time!

Disarm is from NWN itself so it's not an Arelith addition. It's probably something that works okay in the much easier base game.

I don't know if it could be changed but called shot seems more appropriate and useful to me.
