All the greatest linguists I've encountered in game had this. They learned languages really fast.

From experience, my Gift of Tongues character with moderate intelligence seemed to pick up languages at a rate comparable to my wizard, so I would guess that the bonus is significant. Never tried stacking it on a high int character though.

If you have 18+ INT, then yeah, totally worth it. That goes double if you're a Rakshasa. Otherwise, you'll cap out on languages pretty quickly.

I've had a wizard, super high int with the gift and yeah, its worth it, IF you have a desire or need to speak many languages.

If you're a wizard or other high INT character, it may be worth it because you can learn quite a lot of the languages. On the other hand, your INT is so high it's likely unnecessary.

Low INT, as TRM said- probably not because the cap will get you fast.

But it adds an approximate, effective +6 to your int mod for the sake of language learning speed.

The other issue is that languages seem to have gone out of style. Three or four years ago, one of my characters learned a language purely through immersion. Nowadays, not only does nobody teach languages, maybe one in a hundred characters even uses them.

Here, I speak of surface languages, of course. If you're a surfacer trying to learn UD languages by stealthing, you'll probably have a lot more luck.

I recall reading on the old forum that it applies an invisible +12 to your INT for the purpose of tracking how quickly you learn languages.
