Neverwinter Nights was made for Forgotten Realms, as far as the Original Story goes, but they did make some mistakes.
One of these mistakes was the Elves' height.
In regular DND, elves are short, but in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, Elves are much taller.
In FR, most elves actually have roughly the same height range as humans.
All but 2 types of elves use the following for figuring height:
Male : 4'10" +2d10 (5'0" - 6'6")
Female : 4'5" +2d10 (4'7" - 6"1")
The other two are Drow and Avariels
Drow use the basic DnD height for elves, and Avariels are only just very slightly taller than other elves.
So does this mean you have to make your elves be taller? Of course not.
But maybe next time you see a 6-foot tall elf standing on a street corner, you'll know why they're so tall.
Now you know
And knowing is half the battle!

Re: Misnomer About Elf Height in Forgotten Realms
A misnomer is when something has a misleading name, though, which isn't the case here. This here is a misconception.
