The big nwn update - excitement postponed!

So the big update for Nwn has just gone live, which is absolutely fantastic, both for NwN, Arelith, and also myself personally as this is the first NwN update with assets I worked on, or directed during Tyrants development.

Unfortunately though, for perfectly understandable reasons none of this is going live on consoles. We can all update normally, but unless I can live with console players encountering invisible creatures, tilesets and other assets (I can't) we are not going to be using any of these on Arelith.

When consoles do update (which granted could take a while) this is going to be very exciting.

Does this mean that we should not update? Also, for some odd reason I am experiencing graphics issues on my Mac. Could this update be the reason?

Updating should be fine. My understanding is that it's a development pack, full of new toys for developers to add in, but will make no difference, should they choose not to use them.

Probably. Something always breaks.

It was the shader override files. I removed them and it is working fine now . Just wanted to let other Mac users know.

This happened for me too. Just removed all the shader files from the override file.

The actual patch released today. The Dev branch still appears to be available on steam

I'm loving the new options/settings menu... you can literally mess with almost every system in the game now. Its insane.

It really is. I soon discovered I would need a new manual just for my settings.

Overall this update is just amazing, and at the risk of sounding fatalist; we should enjoy it, because I very much doubt we'll see an update on this scale for NWN ever again.

unfortunately i have to disable the new lighting as it cuts my framerate in half, though the new water is still nice.

wouldn't it be possible to provide the new content from the patch in the form of haks until the non-PC editions are updated?

what would you like to see in future from this update? What as DEV attracts you the most from it?

And really not worth our time. Anatida and the rest of the team have been working tirelessly on curating, adjusting and adding HAK content for Arelith, and we are still far from having completed all the resources we wish added.

I'm not about to ask them to do yet more work, only to have them strip it out again at some point in the near future. I personally worked on many of the resources just added to NwN, the first time any of my own work has made it into 'official' content, not being able to use it? That really stings, but I can't justify asking any staff member to satisfy my ego by wasting their time on this.

If a few months pass without consoles updating I will reconsider.
