Casting darkness on your allies can be useful, especially if they don't have ultravision.

Again that sounds like Stath advice not newbie advice which is bad advice.

Well, seeing as ultravision often bugs to leave you blind when it wears off... Maybe he's onto something

(Edit to add something constructive)

Find a group that your character only somewhat fits into, conflict (especially conflict that doesn't end in pvp) makes things far more interesting.

If you're being guarded, make sure you run away from the tank, because they should come to you.

Buff your party members with improved invisibility before every other buff.

Never cure lycanthropy, especially when in a party on a dangerous, secluded adventure.

If you're partied with Stath, always logout on him during a boss fight.

Dropping dispels on him in especially during a boss fight is equally as helpful.

Make sure have enough lenses for everyone in your party with exception of Stath when traveling in the deserts of sibayad.

You will be killed by an epic powerbuild PC with the bare minimum RP before PvP.

You will see that epic PC maybe 3 times ever again.

By the time you reach epic levels, have arrange through some great RP a large list of allies, and come up with a fantastic revenge plot. That epic powerbuild PC would have been rolled 2 months ago.

Moral of the story?

Don't waste your time. Plan for 2 to 3 deaths from power builds PC's, and laugh because you knew it was coming.

Drink a Silence pot while partying with Stath, just before you're about to do the boss. After aggroing the boss give Stath a huge bear hug.

Even more specifically -- if you're a monk without Will feats, and the rest of the party has low AC. The bonuses achieved in the form will be a significant aid to your advancement.

Take it from someone that's done it before: Always drop Mords on your party members before fighting bosses with Acid Sheathe.

Especially if their player names are Stath, Ork and/or DestroyerOTN.

These three players find having mord's and implosions dropped on them very useful before boss fights.

Other option is use gate spell on them during a boss fight without protection from evil but whilst casting GS on self.

I post one time from a place of vulnerable bitterness and I'm lumped in with these scumlords? Guess I'll just have to embrace it.

If giants are hurling boulders at you, make sure you run towards your party for maximum effect.

If the enemy is too hard to target with AoE spells, target Stath instead.

Make sure to drop evards black tentacles on Stath, Ork and/or DestroyerOTN, when they are in your party and resting, it'll revive their spells and health much faster.

If your name is Stath, Ork and/or DestroyerOTN, always hit -delete_character twice, it's the new -save.

Make sure to take Wizard levels in all builds -- the decrease to HP and free access to true strikes is crucial in PvP, and you save points on UMD.

Always invite that epic level character to your sewer expedition.

Squeeze 3 druid levels in your build for the RP pet companion. Do it, you are already OP anyways.

Don't forget to take Dirty Fighting for easier leveling -- it can really help against rats when you've only one APR anyway; and OH! No AB penalty!

As an additive, you should always introduce your twin-breasted gnolls to CragOneEye. He receives them excellently for being immersive and productive additions to the Arelith gene pool. :D

If you like challenges then never attack shamans or clerics first. Let them cast all the spells they memorized and dispel all of your wards before killing them. This will also help your fellow mages maintaining their piety level by forcing them to reapply the wards you lost.

Stealth and invisibility is for the weak, true adventurers choose the biggest group of monsters and charge.

Don't forget to 'always' give your undead summons potions of heal when their health gets low. Never again be stuck chewing your nails at a boss wondering if it's going to die!
