Mairibeta Bethirae, a Victim of Blood.

Mairibeta Bethirae, A Victim of Blood.

Hello, welcome to another Rogaku Kudos thread. This time, I am writing the ending Kudos for Mairibeta Bethirae , a Vampire Hemomancer who had an ironic and tragic phobia.

While she was a lot shorter than would've been ideal (both in the physical sense, and in the sense of Arelith playtime) , I do feel with the way her story played out, it was an appropriate ending given her discovery and the reactions of those who discoverd her. With the premise of the character being a product of tragedy and dark influence , I was able to explore that in the time I did have on her enough that I was satisfied with the experience.

Without further ado, some thanks first:

  • Aedan: One of the people who stood alongside Mairibeta throughout her life, and believed in her even when the truth of what she was was laid bare. Definitely an interesting character and I hope to hear of him doing great things in the future.

  • Juniper Oakley: While Juniper only conversed with Mairibeta some and made her furniture, she was a polite sort. Always good to see her about.

  • Aberran: Sold Mairibeta some arcane scrolls and at current is Juniper's companion, also a good sort and watching their banter as well as conversations happening around them was fun when I could.

  • Khara'gos Rivorndir: The Eternal Flame, this man is an awesome character and an awesome player behind the character. I'm glad for the opporotunity to have Rpleplayed at opposite ends even if briefly , especially since I know there is a great temptation to simply obliterate evil with power. In a different time and perhaps with a different set of circumstances, she might've been an interesting attack sheep for him.

  • Caractus Barbatus: Inqusitor of Kelemvor, and another good player. Definitely someone I'd want to see more of in the future no matter what circumstances. He and Khara'gos both knew how to balance believable action, with telling a good story and giving a chance for it to properly develop!

  • Zalata Reva: Another good character and one I wish I had more chances to have Mairibeta converse with. In a tragic irony, had Mairibeta not been caught or outed, she could've stood at opposite ends with Zalata when the Vampiric influence in her took over more fully.

  • Ashari Vahl: Another good character who's interactions helped shape Mairibeta's story, both for good and ill though I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • Ithilwaen: Another character whom I admit I wish I had more time to spend time with , but definitely curious to see what comes of them in the future.

  • Alaina Castemont: A landlady to Mairibeta when she stayed at the Dawnstar lodge (.. Ironic naming I know), she is another charcter who I wish she got more time to speak with.

  • Thomas Castemont: While Mairibeta and Thomas only interacted in the end, the interaction was what I expected and it is good.

  • Byrny Nuhl, Principes and the current people of Castle Gloom. Even if it was but for a few days, you gave her a place to help sort her final affairs few as they were without trouble or worry.

  • And I cannot forget Atticus Stratlace, a man who I feel has had his life expectency shortenend significantly due to the stress continually being around her had to have caused him while he studied her. I could've easily seen a more full story emulating the old movie 'Interview with a Vampire' involving the pair of them had it not been for other factors in play.

  • I would also be remiss in not remembering DM TItania, who helped me through the Vampire process and answered questions as they came up.

So, some facts about this concept:

The name was inspired off of a couple of things, specifically Elizabeth Bathory. Her story is... well, vampire myths would have been right to mark her such.

Another influence was from the song Mairi's wedding.. I just love that spelling of Mary and had to use it.

Yes, she actually WAS A Hematophobic Hemomancer Vampire (say that three times fast). Tragically ironic, her creator Vampire didn't realize until it was too late. You can PROBABLY imagine how awkward it was for him.

The sheep motif she had in sketches which came to her was a product of a time in the Nomad prior ot her having her own place where, given as sleep isn't something I picture Vampires doing in QUITE The same way she was trying to do so .. and, she said 'She was penned in, like a sheep' . So, as opposed to the 'Wolf in Sheep's clothing' motif , well.. she was a damn sheep with Fangs.

The MAIN inspiration for the premise of the character was the protagonist from the game Vampyr, a doctor who was transformed into a Vampire and had been a WWI veteran and also specialist in blood diseases ending up in London at the apex of an outbreak of something kin to the Spanish flu. (Who's name escapes me at the moment) .

Where as he had a career prior , Mairibeta had FAILED to become a Doctor which if the darkness was to consume what little remained of her would've been a driving source of influence upon her.

I wish you all the best, and look forward to seeing you next time when I have another character ready to join the fun that is Arelith.

Regards,
Rogaku

An addendum:

I had wanted to focus as much on the fact that Mairibeta was a victim , though not all Vampires are such by any stretch. The line between victim and monster is one up for debate I agree wholehartedly.

I want to say that I have never shed tears for a character I barely interacted with. But you once more managed to tell a story that has truly impacted me. And this one did leave me in tears. You're an amazing story teller.

House Nuhl and it's menagerie of odd retainers and allies enjoyed her while she was there. Excited to see what you do next! :)

Absolulty stunning character and my god played it right to the hilt! Utterly stunned. Her story was short, but I think will linger a long time after her passing. I hope it will anyway.

I have to echo D4wn on this one. I am a sucker for a good story and well thought out RP and characters. While I only interacted with Mairibeta briefly within the Dawnstar Lodge and later at her ending - the story brought me to tears as we saw her final moments. I am glad to know I was not the only one reaching for tissues as you shared her final moments with us. Thank you for allowing Alaina to be there!

In addition, I was brought to tears a second time when I was given the opportunity to view her personal sketches and to read her journal. Very well done.

She will be missed

accept the things you can not change.
Change the things you can.
And have the wisdom to know the difference.
