Pirates of Arelith - The Battle of Weatherstone.

The chanting grew louder drowned only by the thunder and lightning as it flashed and cracked through the air, but not before the chanting seemed to rise again in retaliation. Dark Clouds had descended making the night even blacker than it was, settling like a omen upon the mystical rocks of Weatherstone. Around the sacred stones there were thin snaking pathways supported by natural stone pillars and below that through the mist could be heard the sound of the sea beating furiously against the rocks below.

The Pirate Captain gave a feral grin to his crew trying to assure them everything was fine as black robed individuals appeared from the darkness, some seeming to almost step unnaturally from the shadows as they filed in to the circle of chanting mages. He pushed at some wet locks of hair across his face and snorted. The rain had soaked his hair and it was hanging limply around his face and he tied it up with a thin leather strap. Drawing his blade a cold light shining from it he pointed it at the entrance, a thin walkway of some length.

"Theyll be coming from there" he growled his voice low but carrying weight and authority.

The pirates a motley crew of warlocks, Mages and lightly armoured mercenaries moved into defensive positions and waited casting nervous looks to one another as the chanting changed pitch. The pirate captain looked over his shoulder for a moment and wished he hadn't. Amidst the tall rune stones shaped into a circle the dark robed mages had formed their own circle within, they had raised their hands into the air and a great fire was rising unnaturally between them. A sinister screeching pierced the night as the bonfire turned black and purple in colour and rose higher into the sky seeming almost ethereal as it danced in the darkness. As he watched almost entranced he flinched for a moment as something within seemed to stare back from the flames if only for a moment and he shivered not from the cold biting rain or the stormy winds whipping his cloak around him.

"This aint right Captain" said a silky voice, more a whispers than anything else, but the warlocks voice carried, it always did. The Captain snapped out of his trance and looked at him. There was conflict in the Warlocks eyes, the warlocks hood tried to hide it from him but he could see it none the less. Snarling the pirate captain faced the thin walkway again trying to regain his composure.

"Steady lad, there paying good coin for our help" growled the Captain. Yet the Warlock for all his diabolical nature was still torn with what was happening here and this set the Captain on edge.

"they’re coming.." hissed another pirate with a sinister grin, this ones robes where as black as those who were at the raging inferno, one would almost think him one of them. The Captain peered through the unnatural darkness that was seeping into the night and as another flash of lightening pierced the gloom a large number of figures could be seen, their cloaks and banners fluttered in the breeze. Silhouetted by the lightening, it gave them a solemn look and as if to signal their mood the heavens roared in anger once more, the heroes of Guldorand and its allies had finally arrived..
