The Break.

“Is that..“ She paused for a moment, her gaze tracked the mountainside mostly, but of all it was focused on the ocean that met them at the bottom, her eyes moving along with something in the distance.

“A ship?”

The object moved further into her view, a soft squint of her gaze marked it in further detail, undoubtedly it was - two people in a small boat, barely a ship at all, one clearly paddling, the other just sitting in the back. She moved immediately to keep up with the ship, wary of the mountains slowly blocking her vision. Scaling the mountain was always something she loved doing regardless, but this - this was exciting, new visitors to the island and with the god’s grace she was the one to meet them first. Her eyes darted between the ship and her path as she gracefully dodged rocks and fern as she sprinted down the mountain.

“Hey!” Her voice rang and echoed down the hill to no response from the two people in the ship, she kept up her sprinting over the next few minutes as the shoreline started to become closer and closer. She gave it a little bit before trying again, her voice rang once more - “Hey, you!”. This time she got a response, it was clear. The, now clearly a young looking man, turned to wave, and wave he did. He jumped up immediately and waved with both hands towards her, though his travelling companion didn’t match the enthusiasm, they didn’t even seem to respond, the shout that came back did not seem to match the man’s look at all, it sounded rather high pitched, almost like an older woman - “Hey!” rang back towards her, pushing her pace further, the devil himself embodying the smile on her face with sheer excitement in folds. “Someone new” She whispered, softly to herself.

She came upon the scene of their arrival a few minutes later, the man now pulling what was clearly not a ship, but rather a small boat only slightly larger than a rowboat, his back was turned to her but his attire was clear, barefoot with a coat. She hoped the front would detail a bit more articles of clothing than that “Hey, welcome!” The enthusiasm rang out of her voice, probably seeming a bit more nervous than she actually was, he turned quickly to face her, the sight something she was not expecting in the slightest. What greeted her was a young.. Boy, barely a man at all. Donning nothing but a black coat with a maroon lining and a pair of shorts, a small black tattoo on his chest. The most stark part of the man seemed to be his face. The features on his face seemed almost too large, almost uncannily, his eyes and mouth just being too large for the head they sat upon, most noticeably was the red glow that almost seemed to flow out of his eyes. Her lip quivered a bit at the sight, this wasn’t what she was expecting, completely unnerved at the sight of something so different to what she was used to.

She nodded to him quickly, clearly taken back by it all. A soft ‘Hi’ was muttered, but not much else. Nothing about his earlier enthusiasm had changed, though. A loud “Hey you!” was returned, all the while a massive smile that just seemed too large for his face greeted her. She took a moment to regain her composure amidst her studying of his face to speak again “Welcome to Roftral, I’m Ally”

“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Che! And this, this is Jamie” He’d gesture to his ‘companion’ at that, to which she offered a faint nod to them. “Are you.. Perhaps hungry, are you okay?” All the man could do is smile and nod at that. He either seemed incredibly simple, or incredibly creepy.

She gazed past him at this ‘Jamie’. It was clearly not a person, not a companion, it was a bundle of straw netted up with a sack for a head. The face was drawn on in a dark maroon with features resembling a large smiling face, once again. The only thought on her mind at that point was why Che spoke to a scarecrow as if it was a real person.

This felt like a mistake.
