Reccomended Spells

What are recommended spells for a Spellsword. And which for all imbues?
Which to extend and which to maximize etc?

As a spellsword you're a wizard, so you'll eventually be able to learn everything via scrolls. No big deal, if you grab the wrong spell on a level-up. The only thing to be aware of is that some spells (greater sanctuary, namely) can't be scribed or require particular items to scribe. If you're inclined to avoid the hassle, it's worth picking them on level-up. Details on the wiki.

Most useful to you early on will be long-lasting buffs to help your combat ability. Things like stat buffs, extended shield, mage armour, protection from alignment spells and; later, as you get longer durations, things like improved invisibility, mind protection, and as many hastes as you can slap into those slots become more useful. Direct-damage spells aren't going to be a huge help to you early on. Your DCs will be sub-par, and your spell slots limited. Best to stick to buffs or saveless spells, if you really want to fling out some magic.

Generally, anything with hours / level is fine in its natural slot. Turns or rounds / level, you'll typically want to extend. Maximise is useful to shuffle your imbues to a higher level without burning spell components, as well as for stat buffs and Issac's Greater Missile Storm. Which is one of the few reliable damage spells you'll have as a spellsword.

True strike also behaves in a special way for spellswords, and lets your imbues do their work on more attacks per round, so that becomes useful later once you're thwapping things multiple times.

Having played several spellswords, and playing one currently, these are the spells I never go without.

Level 1: Mage Armor, Shield, Endure Elements, Negative Energy Ray, True Strike.

Level 2: Zoo buffs relevant to your main stats (Ideally you'd want to either maximize or empower these), Ghostly Visage, See invisibility, Ultravision, Resist Elements.

Level 3: Greater Magic Weapon (Scribe these unto scrolls for CL 15, thus making weapons +5), Haste, Vampiric touch (Great when maximized).

Level 4: Enervation (maximize for imbue 3), Improved Invisibility, Stoneskin, Ice Storm (maximize for imbue 3), Wall of Fire (maximize for imbue 3, Isaac's Lesser Missile Storm (maximize for imbue 3), Polymorph self, Elemental Shield.

Level 5: Lesser Mind Blank, Mestils Acid Sheath, Energy Buffer.

Level 6: True Seeing, Greater Stoneskin, Mass Haste, Isaac's Greater Missile Storm,

Level 7: Great Thunderclap, Shadow Shield, Protection From Spells, Power Word: Stun, Control Undead.

Level 8: Blackstaff, Greater Sanctuary, Premonition,

Level 9: Time Stop, Mordekainens Disjunction, Power Word: Kill, Shapechange.
