Ranger Double Bladed Sword Build.

Post by TheRoyalMagus » Sun Dec 29, 2019 3:10 pm

Can someone please point me in the direction of a good double bladed sword ranger build? Looking at going strength ranger. I do have a normal reward to spend as well, if that matters. I'm also very partial to making this a half-elf, if it doesn't nerf the build too bad. At least 21 levels of ranger. Not sure how good a 21/9 Ranger/Rogue build would be?

9 levels of rogue doesnt do much for you. Rangers already get evasion and a good amount of skillpoints. You're better off going 27 ranger 3 specialist, 23 ranger, 4 fighter, 3 specialist, or 21 ranger, 4 fighter, 5 wm.

Alternative, if you'd like to use a quarterstaff instead of double bladed sword, 27 ranger, 3 monk, or 23 ranger, 4 fighter, 3 monk.

Replace Bard with Rogue if you want Sneak Attack damage.

I forgot to mention that pure ranger is actually viable post UMD and SE change.

Pure vs 27 / 3

2 more epic bonus feats, 3-4 more SE depending on wisdom, 1 more damage vs FE/SE

This puts you at 10-11 studied enemies depending on wisdom, 5 preepic favored enemies, and 5 epic bonus feats / FE.

Ranger cannot take armor skin as a bonus feat, so assuming 14 wisdom, you can take BoE, ewf, epic prowess, and 2 GSF on bonus feats while still having 15 favored enemies.

This frees up your epic general feats for armor skin, 2 great strength, and whatever ESF you planned to take on the specialist levels. Or, you can take armor skin and 3 epic saves feats. Or 3 great strength if you started with even strength.

So with all of that, pure ranger vs 27/3 gets 2 less ac, 1 more ab, 2 more damage, and has room to more easily take GSF trans and abj.

Is 27/3 still better? Probably, but pure ranger is not a terrible option anymore.
