Mummies vs. Vampires

Post by andthenthatwasthat » Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:07 pm

It seems a lot of players prefer summons from the vampires stream. Few still love the mummies. What are the mechanical advantages and drawbacks of each?

Mummies are superior in every way to vamps. Their 25% physical immunity is no joke and in general they are more difficult to kill.

Vampires have better offense, mummies better defense.

Mummies are generally better for PVE. As stated above, they are very though and can hold their own in most epic dungeons with a little micromanaging. On the other hand, if you take Vampires into Baator, the Abyss, and other difficult dungeons you will find that they die VERY quickly. Like, possibly in the first encounter.

Vampires have an increased movement speed and hit a little harder (slightly higher AB) so they are a good way to put pressure on an opposing PC in PvP. Their AB and damage are pretty high and they have a decent crit range. Hasted, they are collectively throwing 9 attacks per round. Even if their AB is not able to overcome the target AC, they are mathematically very likely to collectively roll a 20 every other round. Most (not all) PCs cannot safely ignore this and have to deal with it somehow unless they kill you as the caster really fast. Basically, they put serious pressure on your opponent in PvP.

There is only one thing IMO that Mummies have over Vampires in PvP. Assuming you have Mummy Dust, your boss mummy will cast WoF at the beginning of the fight. I assume this is cast at a relatively low Caster Level so I'm not sure how reliable it will be.
