New Minmir

Fun area overall.

Issue:
In the basement level the door locks behind you, so you can't go backwards. There is an exit portal at the end. The party I was traveling with ran into a situation that one of them had no exit portals, and with the door locked behind us they couldn't exit the floor. There was a DM on at the time and they were able to get jumped to Brog's portal.

Solution One:
Have a switch in the room with the boss that unlocks the door. This allows travels back up and out the way that they came.

Solution Two:
Have all characters start with one portal on each server so that characters can always have an exit portal. Like the surface server would always allow portal to the Arcane Tower for example.

Or solution three;

If you have no portals on the server then it is the same as drinking an attunement potion?

The Temple of Bane is probably the coolest guildhouse/area on the server next to Sencliff.

But Sencliff has a speedy messenger, and the Church doesn't. Could the Church get one too? The closest messenger is Guldorand, and that's quite a walk - and not even a pretty safe walk, like from the Tower to Bendir. Those Ogre mobs aren't weak, and Foof is an actual boss-tier monster.

Not to mention Guldorand isn't overly friendly towards Banites lol

Yes, they should probably get a Speedy. Same as the Tower should get a Speedy and printing machine.

Exploitable possibly once and rarely at high level. Maybe it could send you to a random portal on the server then *as though swept away by the power of the portal with no anchor to tether you to a location"......you then become attuned to the portal it sends you to meaning that you can't use the exploit again.

the question is how do you get to minmir and never pass a portal destination on the way?
there is the tower, shallow wood just to name two you have to pass.

And if you took a boat and went all the way around, if you never been on the surface server at all your way below the level to be exploring there

I think Speedy Messenger and fixing the message boards are on the radar already. The door locking behind you at the Chateau is known to Irongron already I suppose he'll fix that when he gets back.

What poor speedy wants to be locked in a banite fortress all day? Put the poor guy in the command tent, have some compassion. Don't those halflings suffer enough already?

Then I ran into the annoying mages. Luckily, Lissa's S.E.E. device™ was working perfectly and I continued on. I was looking for the Bantie fortress after all.

Then, I looked at the Chateau again.

As expected, I got locked in. Even worse, I was very much not ready for undead.

I was able to kite the boss away and hop in the portal.

Personally, I'd leave the door locked and allow an exit from the roof.

XD The Roof Exit could be reached if you had some rope and could make like a DC on a climb or something. Or you could just fall on your face. Ow.

Just a brief visit to the forums. Glad the ballroom is popular, I really do like it. The locked doors are intentional, and I am surprised anyone got so far north without activating a portal. I stopped using 'exit' portals some time ago, as with the Dolgom I saw that a lot of parties just walked straight back in the front door. I will look at this when I get back though, as I did intend to have it connect to an upcoming area of Septire's eventually.

The character in question that missed it was a level 8-9 dwarf. They thought they had the Brog portal already and you can go from Brog to Minmir without passing another portal by taking the thousand stairs.

As for the exit portal, I didn't mean exit to the start of the dungeon but have surface characters start with the Mayfield portal for example. And a similar portal for the city/planes server.

It just ensures that characters always have a planar portal exit option without ever having to touch a portal.

Here's my lengthy 2 cents, some of which are sort of bug reports:

• Portal Source somewhere in "upper" Minmir; the Vigilant Knights' Tent might be a good spot for this. The upper places are really isolated, the closest portal being Lake Minmir, meaning you have to trudge through a lot of stuff to actually get to the Chateau dungeon.

• Speedy messenger in the Church building, probably up with the Chaplain on the second floor? That room is fairly empty otherwise.

• Paper box in the Church, or have one of the NPCs sell paper

• Fix messageboards, inside and outside the Temple. Currently messages won't stick to them, I made a bug report somewhere about it

• Fix random traps that spawn on the floor in the Guildhouse; random minor negative traps and some random ones on the "secret passage" doors.

The issue I would have against putting a Speedy in most guild houses is that it makes them too convenient and too impregnable.

It enables players to do all their roleplay behind impenitrable doors, able to call out whomever they will, never neccesarly leaving and never being vulnerable to reprisals/counter attacks ect. Note that I don't just say this for the 'evil' guys, I'd argue the same for the Arcane Tower (upper floors) or any goodly guildhouse too.

So small counter suggestion - by all means put a Speedy closer to that area - maybe even just outside the Temple. But it should definatly be outside the locked guildhouse doors. So that if the residents want to get someone to visit them, they have to step outside the hall to do it.

Oh definitely, I agree with you Yma. The place with the Chaplain I mentioned isn't behind a Guildhouse door at all. Anybody can get in there with a "faith check" or good enough Bluff similar to the Tower in the Shadow Plane.

The place is too isolated for it to lack a speedy, I think. Having to walk and kill a bunch of Ogres, Gnolls and Talassians all the way to Guldorand is a drag, especially considering the current political climate of Guldorand isn't incredibly friendly to anybody wearing the black and gold.

None of the other guild house/religion types places really have any of that stuff either. No paper, messengers, etc. Ohh how I hated being in the shadow tower and discovering I had no paper. Maybe the command tent would be a place for a speedy.

This entire thread screams "Explore more of Minmir!" to me.

My only gripe is how difficult it is to reach the Church of Bane for lower level characters. It feels like those signs at amusement parks that read: "You must be this tall to ride". Being a Banite can be difficult enough without the added level requirement to reach the church (and I've already met one character that was told to find the church themselves rather than getting escorted there).

It is worth noting that a 2 way portal has been added to nexus falls, they're a a rare thing on arelith with the closest before the update being at the arcane tower. Good news also for Myon.
