Investigate and Divination possibilities

Post by SongSinger » Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:03 pm

Discussed in the Discord, figured I'd bring to attention some key factors that could really improve the -investigate feature, detection features, evidence and actually allowing guards and law-bidders to, you know, be able to bring something to a court besides "He said she said", as well as offer legitimate RP opportunities for places that thrive on Law (Brog and Cordor come to mind)

MUNDANE:
- Tracks could be updated so that if summons are dragged through areas, then naturally they should leave tracks alongside their masters. This could probably be done in tiers to determine how much info about said summons including number and racial type.
- NPC's can offer more information about a specific target if the character has persuade/intimidate, by using -investigate [Number] based on the number of PC's having travelled? Seems possible, the Deck of Stars has fun info and tracks interesting aspects that could be incorporated in 'eye-witness' statements
- PvP and PvE conflicts leave some traces beyond just blood (maybe using blood still though) and offer an insight into the combatants.

MAGICAL:
- Divination focuses should be useful for divining, so using divination magic should help reveal recently used magic in the area (Maybe a Detect Magic spell?). Heavier investment reveals how strong the magic might be in tiers.
- Illusion magic might be used to disguise the presence of other magic.

RECORDING:
- Recording devices (manufactured expensively) might record what an NPC or a reading offers, at an exact time, when using -investigate. It probably needs writing paper to offer 'charges'.
Iyr'varsis - "In a City of Heretics, perhaps I am the most heretical."
Emeryn, 'Archer the Archer' - "You seem a damber sort, let's have a drink!"
