[Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
Hey!
I was fiddling with the concept of Chevalier, but i realized to the end point that no matter how or where i'd turn it i'd end up becoming a spear user alongside the lance... while the proper "knight" weapon would be a longsword for whenever your dehorsed.
Any chance the Chevalier should get the same treatment that rogues had with their rapier + dagger Proficiency.
So any weapon feats taken could be automatically applied to the weapon type "Lances" for the Chevalier? i mean it's already a class that's gutted in term of power but i'd take it for the roleplay aspect.. but it would be nice to not end up thus being forced into being a polearm user overall.
What'cha folk think?

Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
Sounds like a good fix imo
Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
I made a thread about this too.
I think it should just be:
If Melee Weapon Focus ----> If Combat Riding ---> you get weapon focus lance.

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen are defrocked, shouldn't it follow that cowboys would be deranged?

Since the lance is only practical on a horse it makes sense that it would be a given feat. The area you can actually -use- a horse is limited so they gotta be able to be proficient when dismounted to

Please please please!
Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
In 5 level you are getting 3 bonus feats along with class feats. This is same bonus feat progression with fighter along with the bonuses. I doubt they need Lance for free.
Edited for grammar to make it worse, probably.
Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
Few spend one feat on weapon proficiency though. Weapon proficiency plus epic profiency plus improved critical is the norm, plus two more feats if you're a fighter going specialization. You have to figure at least WP and EWP are mandatory for any weapon you rely on, so that's two of these three bonus feats on an class that's basically a fun gimmick just to be able to lance people from your horse (which is about as situational an activity as you can imagine, since it'll never be in dungeons or in buildings and likely not even inside city walls.) Plus you have to take mounted combat to access to class, another feat used..
I could see trading one bonus feat for lance proficiency that matches any other weapon feats you have.

Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
That is the point, though. You are expert of fighting on horse. Other weapon focus you will get going to be a backup weapon. If you want to be good at your backup weapon as someone who trained for horsed combat, you need to spend those feats, not get them for free. You are also already getting use of spear for free as well along with imp. crit. Cavalier's current power is debatable, but imo it should be solved with more unique class features considering you are becoming totally useless at indoor areas. Maybe extending class levels to 10 along with more useful feats of course.Wuthering wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2020 12:23 am Weapon proficiency plus epic profiency plus improved critical is the norm, You have to figure at least WP and EWP are mandatory for any weapon you rely on...

Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
You're 5 levels of a Cavalier and 25 of other things, and most other things don't want to be restricted to polearms, especially if the character is dex-based. The lance itself is useless when you're off the horse, and the vast majority of content in the game is in places where you can't ride a horse and your cavalier levels aren't doing you any favors.
I don't think it's an unreasonable request and the class can be fine tuned for it. I don't get your resistance but whatever.

Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
Because this is literally what these bonus feats stands for. 4 pre-epic cavalier can get WF and IMP. CRIT, and with 5th level in epics, it can get EWF.

Re: [Chevalier] Lance Proficiency
Isn’t it up to the developer to say whether that’s what they stand for? I think it’s supposed to be open feats to match fighter but I know I cant say that for sure. Maybe they didn’t consider all the possibilities.
Playing a halfling cavalier puts me at a disadvantage over a human because pole arms don’t have any other weapons I can use. Spears aren’t weapon finesse weapons and quarterstaves can’t be used by small characters. I’m sucking it up and taking two sets of weapon focus feats but Its ruining the build. But if you want authenticity I think a cavalier would switch to another weapon like short sword when they were off the horse.
