Greater Magic Weapon: Mordenkainen's Sword

Post by Naiinara » Tue Jun 30, 2020 12:43 am

The level of the summoned creature, Mordenkainen's Sword, is 16, and all the weapon enchantment spells are as if a level 16 character casted the spell, even if your character level is much higher. I am hoping this is just an unfortunate side effect of the change when using such a spell on a lower level player characters.

I occasionally like to use the spell still even in epic situations where a magic immune construct is useful, but this is making it a bit less attractive. That is, it is nice to have a +5 weapon to pierce some monster casters abjurations.

I'm pretty sure you're correct. I'll forward this to our acquatic dev.

It be nice for the GMW to revert to the old calc system (+1 / 3 levels, max at 15).

A way around that is to give the summon a plus 5 Ab weapon, coupled with an Ab penalty so it penetrates stoneskin and premonition without actually having higher Ab. Makes alot of sense for the spell to punch through dr of mage spells. You can also tie it to trans foci, where instead of the current plus 1 Ab from each focus. It gets a higher enchantment on its weapon for every respective trans foci.

Yes.

I'm not sure how to describe something I completely understood the logic behind but felt was utterly unnecessary.

I mean the issue wasnt how caster lvl 15 got plis 5, its how a lvl 3 spell scroll from some reason had a 15th caster level.

Agreed. I don't understand the reasoning behind the GMW scale change either.
