Zinc Ingots Made Useless ;_;
Not quite a bug, but...
Now with the secondary Brass ingot recipe removed (which I used alllll the time btw ) I am having trouble finding the use for all my zinc ingots. So maybe a semi bug, since they are now rendered useless, from what little searching I've done.

iirc, their sole use outside of (previously) making brass is being part of making repeater crossbow bolts and an incredibly niche shield that no one ever crafts or uses because it's objectively worse than every other option available to at the level you'd be capable of crafting it at.
Sooooo. Yeah, it's basically worthless now, outside of chucking it at a settlement for a miniscule amount of money.
I also used to make brass ingots from zinc ingots very regularly.

I'm sorry buys, but that recipe was just the pits. Still you bring up a good point this does mean we need another use for Zinc ingots. I can't promise a fix tomorrow or anything but I'll give it some thought and see what we can come up with.
This too shall pass.

I mean, it was actually incredibly useful because zinc and copper ingots both regularly drop from constructs.

Re: Zinc Ingots Made Useless ;_;
It takes 1 copper and 2 zinc ore to make 1 brass bar now. Prior, it was 1 ingot of each made 2 ingots, or 1 ore of each made 1 ingot. I don't understand why this recipe is referred to in the manner that it is as if in the past tense, or as if it isn't worse now than it was before.The GrumpyCat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:49 pmI'm sorry buys, but that recipe was just the pits. Re: Zinc Ingots Made Useless ;_;
I'm sorry but I'm afraid you are mistaken.
At side from anything else, it takes 2 lumps of copper/Zinc to make your ingots, not one.
To go into more detail...
Previously there were TWO ways to make Brass ingots
(As an aside the wiki is out of date - but I'm glad it is right now as I can check my details)
Ingot (Brass) 206 16 4 600 gold 2 Coal
1 Ingot (Copper)
1 Ingot (Zinc) 2 Ingot (Brass)
Ingot (Brass) 511 6 2 600 gold 2 Coal
1 Rock Chunk (Copper)
1 Rock Chunk (Zinc) 1 Ingot (Bra
These were the two recipes. Irongron agreed to make it one recipe (the second).
A Copper Ingot requires 4 coal and 2 chunks of copper
A Zinc Ingot requires 4 coal and 2 chuncs of Zinc.
That means to make two ingots of brass the old recipe demanded
2 copper
2 zinc
10 coal.
Now to make two ingots of brass we require
2 copper
4 zinc
4 coal.
The recipe requires a litlte more in the way of zinc now (but as said there arn't exactly a lot of uses for that anyway) but is far more gentle on the amount of coal required - and lets face it coal is much more useful in a lot of other things.
Further more the CP requirement is far less (2 cp rather than 6, though granted your 6cp made two ingots - so I guess you could argue it's more like 2cp vs 3cp... still an improvement.)
Also there's less chance of over all failure - after all presuming you are forging these ingots you can roll a 1 at the creation of either of the copper or zinc.
And finally it's less fiddly in RL time as you have to fist make two unrelated ingots, to make the third ingot you actually want.
The complaint that found zinc ingots are usless now is fairly valid, and I think that is absolutly something we need to look at and find a use for in the future. But - unless you have an extreme issue with gathering zinc ore - which honestly did need more of a use anyway - this new recipe is superior or equel in every way.
*Far less coal
*Equel Copper
*Lower CP
*Less chance of failure
*Less RL time taken

Re: Zinc Ingots Made Useless ;_;
I guess that's true, only there's a lot of permanent spots for coal, a decent number for copper, and I don't think any for zinc. These days for my brass-making I'm limited by zinc, which despite the "kill dragon, find zinc" meme that's circulated since the ore change a while back, is actually kind of hard to find when you want to find it. That said, I didn't think about the lowered craft-point requirement, which is pretty nice.
not to digress too hard from the OP, but there are a lot of "one use" ingots, like lead suffers from this same problem.

Brass drops very frequently from constructs too. I don't know how many recipes cost brass these days but I've never needed so many that they needed to actually be made in the past.

So we're very much on track.

Re: Zinc Ingots Made Useless ;_;
At one point, deep in the past, didn't the catalysts require lead and zinc and something else?
I remember at the time, that was a critical need for those ingots.
It also reduced the demand for copper / silver / gold.
Also, I instantly approve of anything that reduces demand for coal, coal, and more coal.
