Three Vampire Suggestions!

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:
- implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
- the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
- the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to tweak X class.

Three Vampire Suggestions!

Post by Hazard » Tue Nov 27, 2018 7:34 am

Been playing one a lot recently, since the LOVELY AMAZING UPDATE TO PLANAR TRAVEL <3 (Seriously. Thank you so much.)

A few things I've noticed that are terribly awkward though.

At -50% blood you begin taking damage. I think this should be removed and replaced with attribute penalties or if that is difficult because of their immunities, then a penalty to ab/dmg and all saves instead. Vampires do not need to feed to persist, they simply need to feed because it is an irresistible urge and to maintain their strength. A vampire is not destroyed/does not perish if it does not feed. They can persist eternally (although in a terribly pathetic and tormented state) without feeding. Vampires in lore are sometimes kept prisoner this way and it's among the worst fates that can befall them.

"Inescapable Craving (For Vampires, this is lifeforce): Some undead have no
“bodily” requirement to feed, and could continue
to exist solely on negative energy, but are driven
to their diet all the same by inescapable cravings.
These cravings, denied too long, could turn even
a sentient undead to mindless hunger. Once the
feeding is accomplished and the hunger sated, the
intensity of the craving drops back to a tolerable
level, but it is a cycle doomed to repeat itself."

"Diet Dependent (for vampires this is blood): Some undead must feed on the living to
retain either their mobility or some of their other abilities. The
link to the Negative Energy Plane for undead of these sort grows
increasingly tenuous the longer they are denied the necessary
food. At some point, their mobility or one or more specifi c
abilities are suppressed until they can feed again. However,
no matter how enervated by lack of feeding, undead cannot be
starved to the point of permanent deanimation."

^ This would have absolutely no balance effects. Getting to -50% blood would take multiple play sessions anyway. It would just be a nice touch for prisoner RP, and that's something that requires consent anyway. It would be a lot of fun and more accurate to the lore. Please consider! Pretty please.

Also a command along the lines of -itsnotmybedtime that resets your rest meter to 100%. Vampires don't need to take naps! It's terribly awkward for your undead character to start slouching (and be taken out of combat) every now and again, and to have to sit down infront of everyone. Every time that happens people start shooting me tells like "LOL. Your vampire has to rest. That sucks." .. So. Yeah. I agree, kinda sucks. If it gets low enough you even start falling over randomly, and if it gets to -100% you are insta-killed. Very silly.

"—Undead do not breathe, eat, or sleep."

Again this would have no balance effects. Just not needing to strip down and sit down every now and again, and breaking the immersion.

Also, dark vision would be nice >.>

"The energy that animates an undead extends to
its organs of sight, giving all undead creatures darkvision out to
at least 60 feet. They are never hindered by darkness, and they
are able to see even in pitch black conditions, when most living
creatures are unable to discern the least visual clue."

EDIT: Added some quotes from Libris Mortis to support suggestions.
