Dettach setting which associate you control from Associate Tool and create its own (Associate Set Tool?), so when you use Associate Tool to give commands you don't run the risk of clicking your associate and screwing with associate setting.

edit: Better yet, keep it as it is but add two new associate tools, one for each, for whoever likes as it is.

This suggestion really wasn't all that clear to me, but if there is a common problem where people clicking on the wrong thing, approved...for something?
