Animal Companions Attack!

Post by DaTexican » Fri Oct 10, 2014 8:11 pm

So I knew about the whole, animal companions/summons attacking players if a AOE spell hit them from a party member, annoying as that glitch is. But Never have I had my summon and animal companion turn on me for casting greese.... ever. They 1 shot me. Anyone experienced this?

*Edit* Tested a bit, yes this is every time now.

any area effect spell can cause this sadly. give them another command and that will often stop them. ether using short keys or right clicking on them or their portrate.

oh sorry, not any area effect but area effects like darkness, grease or spells that effect the status similar to those.

1) Whats a short key? New to server/game (bout 3 months). Thx in advance.

2) But why has this started happening now? I've used Greese in combats, hitting my companions for months now and never had them attack me. Its a really good battle strategy as Druids ignore the effects. This is a recent deveolpment. I know that this happened with other players that were not me (as its my companion) with darkness and the like, and i patroled it as best I could, but if for some reason I'm in halfling form, I only have 32hp, at lv 9. If my animal companion rolls high on their dmg for first attack he will LITERALLY kill me. He deals 26-34 dmg if he gets sneak, and thats non crit. :/. I don't get much time to react to that.

Is this bug something that is being looked into to be fixed by chance?

Voice commands will give your companion new instructions. If you open up the voice chat menu by pressing "V", you'll see a number of options. Anything marked with an asterisk(*) is a companion/familiar/summon command.

Attack: V-W-E
Follow: V-E-E
Hold: V-W-X (This is the one you want. It should make your summon stop.)

So that's what that asterisk is...

Yeah. That's why, when there's a ton of lag, you'll hear:

"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"You stupid worthless animal, I will skin you myself and pike your severed head in the forest as a warning to your idiotic animal friends, if you don't attack the enemy that's standing three feet in front of you!
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"Strike at them. Attack!"
"AAAAAAAAAAUGH!"
Player has disconnected.

Please note, if you cast a spell that makes your companion/summon immune to said issue causing spell... you will not have this issue.

ultravision - stops darkness from causing companion to attack yourself/party members
freedom of movement - stops grease from causing companions to attack yourself/party members

The only issue I have with summons right now is if you sneak, they sneak.... :( means you aren't able to hide and move around while everything sees and attacks your summon.

If you want them to draw enemies' aggro while stealthed, just issue the command for the companion to attack nearest. It will break stealth on the first attack (And get a nice nasty sneak attack if it's a sneaker companion), and the rest of the aggro mobs will rush to it. You are still hidden til you break stealth yourself in some way.

See...animal companions as well as other players hate dumb casters that throw annoying spells out all willy nilly.

This also happens with elementals summoned... (Dunno about celestials and/or devil/demonic summons)

So I guess the question here is, is that is this something that can be fixed? Or is this something we will live with? I know there are many problems that are very deep in the code and near impossible to fix, and others that can be. I know there have been many changes to AI's recently, so I don't know if this is something that could be fixed.

So should I move this to the Sudgestion Box? I personally think this needs to be addressed but I wanted to make sure i got a recommendation.

If you know a way to fix it, then it's worth a suggestion. If you're just pointing out a problem, then this is where it belongs.
