ECL Variations?
So. If I'm a level 3 character with + 2 gifts, I can XP like a level 5 character, yes?
If this is the case, surely a level 4 character with + 1 gift also gains XP like a level 5 character, and thus should get the same XP?
I report this as a bug because it is in fact, not the case. (The level 4 with +1 gift gets more.)
In this example, all the gifts are exactly + 1 ECL.

Re: ECL Variations?
I don't remember what the formula is but exp. gain is NOT =
BaseEXP * (Level+ECL Modifier)
[or whatever it is what you think it is]
As you level up, the bonus gradually lessens until it doesn't make a difference anymore. It's most obviously seen in the tick bonuses. At level 26 I believe, with 20 RPR and -1 ECL, Euclio stopped getting +21 exp. a tick and got to 20 exp. a tick.

Found answer:
http://wiki.arelith.com/ECL
"ECL XP adjustments are calculated as follows, and rounded down: (Level / ECL) x XP "

So in conclusion, it does not effectively increase your characters level in terms of working out XP, but does something strange, complicated, and variable to your characters level in terms of working out XP.
As long as it's not a bug, then!

Re: ECL Variations?
Mithreas has posted details a few times but I can never memorize them, given it's not the simplest of formulas ^^
I can confirm that the differences aren't proportional. For example, +4 ECL isn't as crippling as it sounds since the boni stack up enough to compensate the cut in xp. I brought a +4 ECL character to level 25 and get a cut of 16.6%. To be more specific, I get 25 xp per hour, that's ECL-modified from 30!

Re: ECL Variations?
It divides your CL by your ECL, and uses that as a % on every EXP you get.
That way ECL is crippling (Or boosting) on lower levels, but slowly loses of its severity.
At level 5, the difference between +2 ECL and -2 ECL will turn 20 EXP into 14 or 26.
At level 20, it will be 18/22.
(ROUGHLY)

Re: ECL Variations?
It's important to notice also that characters under lvl 8 gains a decreasing XP boost from lvl 3 to 7.
That XP boost is also factored in there, meaning a character at lvl 3 with -2 ECL can gain more than 50xp when killing some things. 300+ on some bosses.
As mentioned above as you level up, it's less noticeable. So -ECl really helps you reach arround lvl 10 faster, but becomes less and less noticeable after the teens.
