Re: If Bane represents 'Tyranny'...
There is not a god of freedom, no 'murica. There are only gods who favor freedom and other chaotic aspects like most elemental gods(save Grumbar), majority of CG deities and sometimes even CN/CE deities, even if in a more twisted fashion.
As for escape, Ilmater and Eldath seem to fit that role.

Akadi and Umberlee atleast, and then there is Cyric of course of course being the opposite of Bane. God of the anarchists.
Re: If Bane represents 'Tyranny'...
I'd say Tymora. Her creed is basically it.
One should be bold, for to be bold is to live. A brave heart and willingness to take risks beat out carefully wrought plans nine times out of ten. Place yourself in the hands of fate and trust your own luck. Bear and conduct yourselves as your own masters, showing your good or bad fortune as confidence in the Lady. Chase your own unique goals, and the Lady aids the chase. Without direction or goals, you soon know the embrace of Beshaba, For those on no set course are at the mercy of misfortune, which has no mercy at all.
Odly enough the opposition to Bane is Torm, wich is basically an identical opposite.
This is Torm's creed.
Salvation may be found through service. Every failure of duty diminishes Torm and every success adds to his luster. Strive to maintain law and order. Obey your masters with alert judgment and anticipation. Stand ever alert against corruption. Strike quickly and forcefully against rot in the hearts of mortals. Bring painful, quick death to traitors. Question unjust laws by suggesting improvement or alternatives, not additional laws. Your fourfold duties are to faith, family, masters, and all good beings of Faerûn
Basically Bane is about loyally serving evil masters, while Torm is about loyally serving good masters.

Re: If Bane represents 'Tyranny'...
'Freedom', as in freedom from shackles and slavery, would imply Ilmater to me.
Re: If Bane represents 'Tyranny'...
Of note, though, Ilmater, as touched on before, has some very strong elements of "Liberate/save/protect the oppressed and downtrodden" and "oppose tyrants, oppressors, and those who prey on the weak". In practice, this usually means trying to reform and correct mildly tyrannical societies, and outright opposing majorly tyrannical socieites (in other words, tea and sermons for Banites, implosions and WoF for Olivia). You don't need to swing all the way to Chaos to find faiths that support the correct measure of liberation needed to ensure a good, stable society that respects human dignity, and not all lawful deities are about crushing deviancy under stomping jackboots.

Lliira's portfolio, as officially cited in the 3rd edition Faiths and Pantheons, includes freedom and personal liberty
Lliira's followers include among them a sect called the Scarlet Mummers, who actively work to subvert and assassinate slavers, particularly those of Loviatar.
So yes, there is a god(dess) of freedom.

Sune! Bane hates her specifically just because she's his polar opposite.
Law, tyranny and hatred. Chaos, freedom and love.

Considering how close those two are, I find that very thematically appropriate.one day remains wrote:Sune! Bane hates her specifically just because she's his polar opposite.

Re: If Bane represents 'Tyranny'...
It's an interesting point that there is no god with a sort of "emancipate the masses"-agenda. There's mass tyranny a la fascism and personal freedom and liberty. *taps chin thoughtfully*
