Re: Shadow writs on freelance short on exp

I get my math from simply counting how many hours a player needs to be online to deplete their adventure exp pool assuming they are doing 3 writs per day and RPing the rest of the time and my conclusion is that it is not meant for people who enjoy doing writs, it's meant for people who hate going t...

Re: Shadow writs on freelance short on exp

I'm saying it's a trap because I cannot really detect any playstyle it is good for. I was very clear about this, I thought. If your goal is not to level fast, then the type of writ mode doesnt matter to you and this discussion makes no sense. I guess my point wasn’t clear enough. The play style it’...

Re: Shadow writs on freelance short on exp

Anyway that one is a trap. … (some assumptions that almost every player has the same goals and feelings on how to play) … I'm pretty sure it's a trap for 90% of the playerbase. Granted, one of your qualifiers is that if their goal is to level , it’s a trap. But seriously, that word. Trap. It’s like...

Re: Character awards & Writs

I just think it needs stressing that it's by no means /neccesary/ for absolutly everyone who plays Arelith to have one. Far from it. This. Exactly this. I get the perspective that a -1 is a meaningful difference. It is a meaningful, noticeable difference in a d20 system. But it’s by no means critic...

Re: What is your sentiment towards the rate of which levels and experience are gained?

However, it's irrefutable that the vast majority of players are on a dead sprint to level up... ...I'd challenge you to look at this systematically instead of emotionally. Of course leveling is a goal of people. No argument there. The point I take with it is that everyone wants to do it as fast as ...

Re: What is your sentiment towards the rate of which levels and experience are gained?

"RP at 30" is no longer just a meme but a priority for the majority of players. Players feel entitled to a faster transit to 30 so they can participate in the RP at that level. I question whether that's the case, though. I don't at all refute that that's been your experience, but maybe it's just th...

Re: atmosphere and tone

that means suspension of disbelief, roleplaying your wonder, awe, terror, or grief, in response to the fantastic and the tragic. This. Exactly this. I was discussing this thread with a friend and they pointed out the number of times we have heard "I killed an ancient dragon, no big deal,” or "I jus...

But why? Why do they still call me nerf-happy? And mad? All I want to do is to create the perfect PvP Class Balance! Not for power, not for evil, but for good . The Cleric Rework will be the first of many. They shall fly from my keyboard, and sweep away every variant, every suboptimal build, every ...

Re: The Paladin Update and Wisdom

So being a normal dude with 8 cha is fine. Trying to be super charismatic with it is when i think we have grounds for a problem. But through bluff/perform one can appear charismatic anyways. Totally agree with you there! An 8 is two points below average with 7 more to go before absolute rock bottom...

Re: The Paladin Update and Wisdom

Sorry this got a bit into the weeds, B. Let’s bring it back around because this discussion really underscores your point. There are a lot of people who play their sheets, and for them it might be nice to have a little cookie for not using such a previously defining feature of the class as a dump-sta...

Re: The Paladin Update and Wisdom

Why do people obsess over RPing stats when people often don't RP their class dips? Because "people" are not monoliths and there is divergence in behavior But a Paladin is a warrior devoted to their god. A rogue is a skilled specialist of sorts. A bard is someone who is knowledgeable of the world to...

To be fair, it’s not an either/or thing. They should be doing both.

Re: The Paladin Update and Wisdom

Unless there's been a big change the DMs have always told the players to roleplay their stats. I would appreciate some clarification on this. I also would like this clarified. If we’re not playing our character’s stats and skills, we’re not really roleplaying, are we? Edit: I forgot to say that I t...

Re: Cordor Should Behave Like Other Settlements.

To echo Zavandar, it's okay for a settlement to be different! However, there's not much in-game about why it's different, or any repercussions whatsoever for continued aid from a notoriously profit-driven society in Amn. If it's Amn bailing out Cordor time and again, how many decades, and in some ra...

Re: Extremely Attractive, Low Charisma

While the books mention charisma as an appearance stat... the monster manual (and related books) seems to strongly disagree. The way I see it with these things is that they mention it as an appearance, among many other things, stat. Are your examples pretty? With the obvious exception of the gibber...

Re: Extremely Attractive, Low Charisma

This is God-emoting, which is a form of metagaming. If you want your character to find someone unattractive through organic roleplay that's perfectly fine, but what you appear to be suggesting is definitely not how to play with other people in good faith. That’s a lot of very firm push back against...

I wish it was modified stat that was shown on examine. You could have +12 cha on your pc specifically worn for social events, making your modified cha 20, but all anyone sees is cha 8.
I absolutely second this. (Third? Fourth?)

Re: Extremely Attractive, Low Charisma

Charisma isn't necessarily physical looks and assuming so is a bit of a common mistake people have been making in D and D for decades. You can have a slovenly, unfit person who just happens to have raw personality and convincing way about them that I'd totally class as high charisma. And vice versa...

No one complaining about all the high CHA characters that are absolutely repugnantly uncharismatic. That’s actually an interesting point! Maybe you’ve seen a trend of exactly what you’re describing. Re: Extremely Attractive, Low Charisma

It’s an interesting phenomenon. I’ve tested this on a few PCs (not just on this server). Even with no description about my PCs’ physical traits and a visibly low charisma score and behaviors that indicate social awkwardness, the majority treat them as beautiful people. Plenty will go out of their w...
