Deity Book Contest [Submissions]

For almost its entire history, Arelith has had in-game reference materials in the form of deity books, that act as pseudo-OOC texts, and not really referenceable IC. They are also not much more than bookshelf matrix chaff, so removing them all at once would mean finding even more of the same books. ...

Re: Request for Henchmen Feedback

All the names makes me think... Does anyone RP with the named henchmen? They have such vivid backstories and personalities for silent NPC cannon fodder, I never knew what to do with that. I assume you're not supposed to have them speak since they aren't your summons or familiar? I think I prefer th...

Request for Henchmen Feedback

Howdy. I want to write more henchmen but I need to know what makes one actually worth hiring. What makes a good henchman? Please list any feedback to help me do this that you think would be useful. This may also be a good place to list weirdness or inconsistencies with DCs to hire being out of wack ...

Re: Shop Tax

There's something to be said for shops that double up as quarters (the ones in Guld and Cordor for instance) that can be used as venues or public fronts for other businesses (newspapers, galleries, theatres, taverns, etc) that I wouldn't want to see stifled by such a change. Instead of coding a solu...

Re: Spellswords: is this balance?

I've been telling people they can get 3 AC by taking a tumble dip because I don't know how math works. (But really I just kept forgetting about the free AC at 28.) Technically, not relevant for AMs, since they can't imbue armor. So. There's that. I like that this change encourages dips, even if it'...

Re: Settlement Election Integrity

And yet some volunteer lil person spents hours combing through our non stop vitriol to make sure we all play nice and turns out - we do? cool!!! Lots of doom spiraling. Used you as a quote piece because the 'no matter the assurance this is a principle matter of trust' rethoric threw me off. Lots of...

Re: Settlement Election Integrity

i'll happily say that the recent elections in guldorand feel like the polar opposite of many of these complaints

i, at the very least, don't believe there was any ooc collusion

it can still happen!

Re: Settlement Election Integrity

When "own effort and roleplay" often translates to ooc collaboration and mechanical gamification, I can't really agree. Generally speaking, I'd very much like to see term limits in place. Or another automated portion of settlement leadership(beyond assassins) that can remove or threaten the status ...

Re: Greater and Major Awards Options

Friendly reminder: Pirate writs involve killing random merchants at sea. People who are just trying to do their jobs and feed their normal human families. If you want to do the charming dashing Disney pirate thing I think you should just pick another port. Sencliff probably isn't the right venue fo...

Re: What does the "setting" mean to you?

Also gonna beat this dead horse again, but it's difficult for the setting to stay immersive all the time when you have players doing the type of stuff they do on Arelith. Players pull off feats that would be legendary end-of-campaign narrative finales for tabletop DnD campaigns with epic level char...

This is less like a bug and more like feedback. The loot matrices are intentionally designed.

How much Search do you have on your character? If it's high, that might be a benefit from having good Search.

Re: Surface Evil Needs Another Home

Conceptually I think Guldorand could be the true home for the nuanced less-establishment evil that a lot of people want. Thieves guilds and such, but by design having it tied at the hip with Myon has strangled it's ability to prosper in that direction because they have a militant divinely ordained ...

Wharftown might be a little problematic because this would undermine the hard work of the actual players who led the storyline of its destruction.

no. no that one's fine. in fact i quite like that. bring wharftown back. the players arent an issue there. not at all.

Re: Lack of creative prisoner RP options for Surface

I have dev-side proposed a prison ship for much the same purpose as the prison island suggestions, operated by the Tricrown Conglomerate (same guys who do the settlement bid stuff) on behalf of all surface settlements. It got good feedback, so maybe in time.

Re: What does the "setting" mean to you?

Imagine we're playing a World War 2 roleplay scenario. The official server policy is that we're set just before D-Day. The Reich dominates Europe, and our focus is on the western front. Now imagine playing with people who don't understand or respect that: trying to adhere to that 'lore' while you've...

I feel like a core issue at the heart of this post is the idea that it's now down to "surface" and "underdark", instead of... alignments, faiths, ideologies, individuals, groups, to decide what is and isn't appropriate in-character, and conflict, bicker, negotiate, and agree among themselves over t...
