Re: If you could play as a mechanically undead character...

I think I would go for a skeleton that has somehow gained sentience and functionally permanent animation. No recollection of previous life, nor any bindings to this or that. Simply a skeleton that has to figure out what to do with the absurd situation of it's own existence.

Re: Build Help: Ranger

I have had a lot of fun on my ranger over the years, so I'll throw out a few combinations that I like: Ranger 30: High DPS against favoured enemies (of which you'll have lots) Strongest animal companion, full caster levels, +5 Blade Thirst, nice amount of epic bonus feats, plenty of skill points, an...

Do Half-Orcs breed true?

This was discussed on the discord some months ago, but I can't recall if a definitive answer was given. So I'll pose the question again here: I have previously thought that a half-orc was always the result of a orc and human coupling, but both IC lectures and the NPC descriptions in the half-breed c...

Re: We need better rewards for grouping for dungeons

One way to have an IC "LFG" function could be to utilize the exisiting speedy messenger service by adding the option to announce /view that you are looking for people/those who are looking for people.

A kind of classified ads for murder hobos.

Re: rollbacks

Just like "Bad things happen to Good adventurers", inconvenient rollbacks can happen to unlucky players. And as much as it sucks to lose something cool/expensive, you got to remember that you are playing on a server that is hosted, developed and maintained by someone else on their free time and expe...

Re: Summon Adjustments

I have mostly played melee types and, at times, felt somewhat superfluous when a caster brings out the big dawgs from the astral kennel. I recently tried my hands on a caster shaman that relies on summons to provide cover for his archery, and I agree that before the nerf, summons were too powerful. ...

It would likely be something that more or less everyone can see/hear/relate to, as is the case with our night/day cycle and seasons. Perhaps there are periodic seismic activity that happens with precise regularity? Some creatures that shed their fur/skin/horns/other horrific anatomy at regular inter...

Re: Westcliff would be a neat actual settlement

I have been reluctant to comment on this thread as I have come to understand that there are stark differences in the understanding of what happened when Guldorand became a city instead of a logging camp, and what the motivations of the affected characters (and their players) were. For the server in ...

Re: Surface Evil Needs Another Home

While Cordor most certainly has the potential to be the legitimate evil polity, it is not there today. If King Edward decreed that the city is open to " advances in the science and understanding of undeath and extra-planar relations, as well as inventive mercantile practices ", then I think necroman...

Re: Surface Evil Needs Another Home

As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, I think the main problem is the lack of a "legitimate evil polity" to drive home the point that evil exists and can't be eradicated by player actions. By this I do not mean an Andunor style surface settlement where "everything goes", or Sencliff which...

Re: The Current State of the Ranger

Shelved my ranger a few months ago, but having played a str ranger for a few years I want to give my input too: 1 & 2) The companion skins are quite OK, but I wouldn't mind more. Cue rabbit skin for more or less funny Monty Python references. 3) There are two animal companions that are usable (Dire ...

Re: Your thoughts on divination

I have feebly tried out a pagan-inspired shaman where communing with the dead or spirits is the gist of the character. One limitation I found is in the spells available to me. Animate dead produces a prop (made much better with various streams), but still gets you in the "evil animator" camp, you ca...

Re: Regarding the suggestions about Sailing Encounters

The Waterdeep/Amn conflict did bring in a welcome justification for non-pirates to target settlement ships. More tension of that kind would open up the space for privateers, or dare I say, sea-based vigilantes?

Is the 13 dex req for the Dirty Fighting there because of balance reasons, ie: No high str/int/wis low dex vigilantes unless they also take 4 levels rogue?

If not, removing the stat req for DI would open Vigilante for more characters.

Brew Potion: Mundane dweomer level

Since the crafting system is not tied to character class, I think it would be fair if also mundane herbalists and alchemist could benefit from an additional level in dweomercraft via this feat. It would also make it a more worthwhile investment on characters that do not have a glut of spare feats. M...

Re: Vigilante and Liberator Feedback Thread

With some experience playing melee Ranger that tried to lean into the beastmaster archetype, animal companions has a few issues: They are strong up front at lower levels, but once summons starts to get immunities, the animal companions fall to the wayside as they have zero immunities. What makes ani...

Re: Models on NWN

I for one really liked the new cave bear model (and foxes!).

Having played this game for a good decade and a half, it is refreshing to see new things. And I rather have the devs experiment with additional models and take it down later, then never introducing them in the first place.

Re: Iron Throne Company Ships

I think more short-lease ships of greater variety would be a boon to sailing characters of all stripes. The problem is usually either that you don't have enough people to crew a large ship, or you do not have access to a large enough ship for your crew. The two couriers (along with that Cordor longs...

At the very core of it, it is just a statistical model that guesses which words come next based on your input. But it is a very large model that has a lot of useful information it can utilize. I have used it for character concept generation, and sometimes it really can surprise you. Like when I aske...

Re: Triday, trine, tricycles.

To me, paying five bags of gold for a wand at the market is a lot less immersion-breaking than imagining someone casually counting up 5000 coins from what I can only assume is the bag of holding that everyone use as a purse. "Bars/Ingots" would perhaps be more elegant and make more sense, but those ...

Re: Cost of Mundane vs Caster

Being a caster with summon is easier and cheaper than being a mundane. No argument there. But the idea that mundanes can't earn enough gold to pay for upkeep and gear is simply false. Investing in appraise, search and DD/OL certainly helps, but it is not really necessary. Some points in art crafting...

Re: Concerns about Repeated Sweeping Class Changes and the Departure from 3.5 Mechanics

I think that one of the reasons that Arelith keeps attracting new players (and returning old ones) is precisely the continual development and changes to classes and their abilities. Sure, it will periodically render established characters suboptimal in the new meta, and while it may suck for the ind...

Divine caster with ranger dip and zen archery is also an option. Works best on Shaman due to synergies. Gives you summons to tank with while you let fly arrows. If you want something both dark and pew-pewy (Or self righteous and pew pew) you could try a Ranger/AA/Blackguard (or paladin) for divine m...
