Re: Options for a Cleric
An additional question regarding Abjuration spell focus: The point of Abjuration and Arcane Defense: Abjuration is to resist dispels. That will probably be very helpful in "what little PvP combat you plan to do". I really like this idea, but I also really like the Transmutation spell focus as well. ...

Re: Options for a Cleric
Then there is the issue of offense: you cannot afford the two weapon fighting feats necessary for a quarterstaff or kamas In my hole-filled brain I reasoned that could be fixed with some levels of Ranger, who unless I'm mistaken still gets at least one of the dual-wielding feats basically for free....

Re: Options for a Cleric
Are you aware of this thread? Yep! Unfortunately I found it after getting to about level 12, and there's no good way for me to go back and fix things. I also was toying with the idea of something less cookie-cutter so that I might be a bit less predictable in what little PvP combat I plan to do. Al...

Options for a Cleric
I'm awful at efficient character creation. I've now remade my Cleric twice and I'm thinking of doing it again. This may be too vague of a request, but could someone help me with figuring out the most optimized build? I'm looking to be a mostly melee combatant, utilizing buffs to help me surpass that...

Re: Concerns about Server Direction.
Ah, I see now. Yeah, I kind of get what you mean. I would have to agree that the writ system isn't my favorite thing simply for the fact that it seems to be the standard and most efficient way to level a character, which obviously then puts a lot of focus on "leveling your character quickly," which ...

Re: Concerns about Server Direction.
I've only been around for a couple of months now, so I don't know how the server's population has waxed and waned over the years, but from what I understand Arelith has existed for almost 20 years. Is there something specific that has caused you to worry that it is in the early stages of a slow deat...

Re: Avidgamers, RPG Gateway, and Life Before Arelith
My intro to online RPGs was a BattleTech/Mechwarrior MUSH/MUD. That led to playing Mechwarrior 2/4 online in a few leagues and a group in our "House" recommended the AnchorDeep NWN PW. Aww man I LOVE Mechwarrior and Battletech. Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries is my favorite game of all time, in fact. Wi...

Re: he'd said, she'd said
This feels overly pedantic to me. I want to interact and not implement TCP/TLS handshake protocol where each party is required to act in some specific way, respond in specific way, and shall they divert from protocol, the world will end. [...] ...we aren't robots here. Billy can write "Billy shakes...

Re: he'd said, she'd said
The whole he’d she’d would stuff kinda bugs me, but it is what it is. I just tend to not interact with those players as much. It feels like the politically correct role play crowd... That's one hell of a leap from "Different way of emoting actions" to "Politically Correct Role Play Crowd that I don...

Re: Avidgamers, RPG Gateway, and Life Before Arelith
I've pondered this a LOT, actually. I think it's fair to say that my first experiences with roleplay were on my elementary school playground when I was a single-digit age. Friends and I would have ongoing stories of heroes and villains, each of us acting our part and continuing some absurd and poorl...

Re: he'd said, she'd said
Because "she tries to" requires a followup sentence or confirmation from another player. [...] It is easier to use present tense, and then respond to interruptions if they happen. While I'm not a huge fan of using *[pronoun] tries to* for character actions, I think the requirement of a follow-up fr...

Re: he'd said, she'd said
I've noticed this as well, and I too thought it was just a personal choice of how to emote or write actions. Similar to how something as simple as a nod of the head could be written as: *Nods* Yes, indeed. *He nods his head* Yes, indeed. Dave nods his head. "Yes, indeed." Or any number of other ways...

Re: 5% Dreams - Answer Individually
Half-Giant
Might be redundant with Firbolg being an option but the Firbolg lore doesn't really suit what I'd want in a character.
Otherwise Half-Troll or full Troll.

Re: Interactions Between Characters You Own
Ah, nice, thank you for sending over the rules reference. I don't know if I just overlooked that entirely or poorly comprehended what I read. So, uh, even though there are people with 3 generations of elves interacting with each other, rules on the wiki say they shouldn't be doing that. DMs and Admi...

Re: Interactions Between Characters You Own
Sounds like the overall concern is regarding people pushing limits and bending rules rather than focusing on good RP and being cognizant about the effects they are having on the server's immersion. Totally get it and agree. I'll leave my characters without knowing each other then, save for my two br...

Re: Interactions Between Characters You Own
Thanks for all the replies! I have to say I'm a little surprised at the consistency of the answers being "A-OK" regarding the IC Stories forum-posting, and "Maybe not so much" regarding the in-game character switching. Happy with what I've gotten anyway though, so thank you again. I'd like to dive a...

Interactions Between Characters You Own
Sorry if this has been asked or addressed already. I've tried to do some searching and could not find anything that fully answered my question. What are the rules and limitations surrounding interactions and character knowledge between multiple characters you play as? Obviously item and money transf...

Re: Show Us Your Character's Outfit
PS. For those who are unaware, selecting "Appearance" from the Rest Menu allows you to make very detailed edits to your armor color that you cannot make from the crafting menu or prismatic mirrors. It allows you to customize the colors on each individual part of your armor! WHAAAAAAAT? I think that...

Re: Remake my character
A semi-related question: If you were to request that a certain amount of exp be removed from your character, does it take away levels in the order they were gained? In other words if Levels 1 - 6 were Bard, Levels 7 - 9 were Fighter, Levels 10 - 15 were Bard, and I wanted to remove 3 levels, would t...

Re: Hello and Thank You!!
Nice! I'm only about 3-4 weeks ahead of you. I think my friends used to play on the Arelith realm back in high school and I was always curious but never quite made the jump. I regret not doing so, and envy those that have been able to be part of the very rich history of the game-world. Maybe one day...

Re: Connection Issues
I've had similar issues. The game will frequently hang for several minutes at a time, sometimes disconnecting afterward. Also have had issues with area transitions very often. I haven't found a troubleshooting guide, persay, but there are a handful of forums posts around the internet regarding simil...

Re: A conundrum of PVP on a RP server
If I were to take my level 30 character and hunt the writ routes (above or below) and kill 6 or more distinct level 12 characters inside of 30 minutes then log so nothing can be done about it, is that just a 'bad guy having a good day'? Or is that six people having a bad day? If this 'bad guy' does...

Re: Which is your favourite?
I learned D&D on 3rd Edition, and the old 3e books had Grayhawk Deities in them. I didn't pay much attention to settings growing up, as my friends and I would just make up our own settings, using the resources in the books to fill in gaps. From what I've read since then, Grayhawk is intended for tha...

Re: A conundrum of PVP on a RP server
Tarkus, Grench, Righ, etc. I think that you are basically ignoring the evidence right above you about what is happening. I have seen it occur often in game myself. An "enemy force" or "deadly opponent" is on the move when I've wanted to do something else, and has affected others in game in a way th...
