Shaman Bard Synergy

Description
==========
Bard synergy appears to be no longer calculating as described.
With 23 shaman levels, and 3 bard levels, that should be putting the synergy at 10, and so 10 charges and access to custom songs.
23 divided by 3, comes out to 7.6
Therefore, 7 synergy levels.
7 synergy levels + 3 bard levels = 10.
Ever since
this update, however, these have not been the case.
In fact, when it uses bard song, it seems to be using Selfish Solo, as I see all the buffs associated with that song. However, I cannot actually change the song. This becomes unfortunate for continued exploration of themes involving inspiration in the world, along with no longer having the mechanical text to compliment lyrics and poems.
Steps to reproduce
----------------------------
Re-level.
Use bard song, and attempt to change its type.
Expected result
-----------------------
10 charges of bard song, and ability to change custom songs.
Actual result
-------------------
9 charges of bard song, and while there is no ability to change which song is being played, it appears to be giving the benefits of Selfish Solo (probably the last one I had activated).

Blood frenzy malus to AC and Reflex does not carry over to server transition
Steps to reproduce
----------------------------
Cast blood frenzy (RAAAARGH!) and switch servers, the bonuses are retained, the downsides are not
Expected result
-----------------------
Have the AC and reflex Malus
Actual result
-------------------
Keeps only the bonuses, no Malus

Misc Notes

EDIT: Retransitioning to the server where Blood Rage does not resolve the issue, hence can be exploited if you have extended blood rage + Epic Transmutation (If you really want to, its more hassle than its worth though).

Since Blood Frenzy was mentioned, I wanted to add that having mighty rage, completely cleanses out both positive and negative effects. So does drinking a lesser restoration potion.

Tested on Underdark and CnP
Still at CL 23 on readout.

Just tested myself after I saw this thread on Surface. CL is 23; Shaman 22, Ranger 4, Loremaster 4. Should, by the rules, be at least 27.
edit:
The extra 1 CL probably comes from loremaster.

This should be fixed next reset. Resto spells and abilities will ignore Blood Frenzy :)

Im Shaman 26 Monk 4 and only at CL 26 when it should be CL 28.
Cast spell resistance and it gives SR 38 (which is 12 + 26) and also the custom readout shows CL 26 after casting.
Monk levels arent providing any extra CL it seems.

Shaman BAB boost seems broken
Posted: Sat Jul 02, 2022 1:44 pm
by Tahira Waynolt
On wiki it states that shaman if majority is treated as a full bab class but not the 4th attack
"If Shaman levels are more than half of total level, the following applies:
The pre-epic BAB lost from not having full BAB progression is regained as soft AB. This does not increase APR.
Each and any multiclass now provides more synergy CL for the first 2 levels, then switches to 1/3 CL per level at the 3rd level and beyond. Different multiclass will stack for the extra 1/3 CL calculation purposes."
My character (20 shaman) with a dex mod of 7 and a +4 crossbow does not seem to get that benfit
BAB 15 + 7 + 4 = 26 ab in combat log
should be
BAB 15 + 7 + 4 + Soft BAB bonus of +5 = 31 Supposed ab

I believe that it applies only if you multiclass with full ab classes, such as fighter, ranger, etc.
If you check the examples on the wiki you will see that the shaman/monk combo does not get any extra sof ab.

Yes, shamans will only obtain soft AB to refund the lost BAB if they multiclass into a full BAB class.
Wiki entry has been updated to reflect that.

yesterday I noticed on Skal that some spells lasted quite a while longer than expected so I checked the CL. For some reason my toon casts spells at CL 22 instead of 14 or 15.

Possible Bug w/ Dispel Calculations on PGCC?
Posted: Sun Sep 25, 2022 9:02 pm
by Hrothgar Bloodaxe
I am not sure if this is a bug, but it might potentially be one - if not, please accept apologies in advance.
Does anyone know about weirdness/bugs/known issues with how Dispelling is calculated on PGCC and / or live server?
Background:
Making a Shaman build using the various cross-class synergies:
21 Shaman
5 Ranger
4 monk
Per the wiki / "synergy calculations": CL is 27 vs. dispels, and then I have Arcane Defense: Abj., meaning my save should functionally be like a level 29 caster, for the purposes of dispel checks (
https://wiki.nwnarelith.com/Dispel_Tables#Quick_Summary).
However...when I had a friend test things out, they hit me with a Greater Dispel (not even Mord's), almost all my wards dropped. They were casting as a level 24 bard / 5 loremaster, with no spell foci.
This seems...excessive (see image below). Like, I would assume that I lose some spells....but having such a massive number dispelled, from a character that is, for dispelling purposes, lesser level and without any sort of Spell Focus feats....seems wrong.
But, they don't include the dispel breakdowns in the combat log, there's nothing for me to check, here.
Does anyone know anything about this? Is this a glitch on PGCC? Is this how it works on the real server? Is there some known issue with the Shaman synergies / how that CL is being calculated, that means this is being calculated artificially low (I only have 21 actual Shaman levels).
I've tried testing over and over again...this keeps happening, so it doesn't seem like I just had an unlucky roll or two...seems to consistently occur.
To complicate things further, the "CL Checker" from the rest menu, keeps saying I'm CL 30, and my spell durations, confirm that it is treating me as CL 30 (Turns per level spells are lasting 30 minutes), when it shouldn't be, for regular casting (I should be CL 26).
So something is messed up....but I have no idea what, and if this is a broader issue on the actual server. Not clear if this is a PGCC issue, a "Shaman Synergy" issue, or some other mysterious spooky problem.
If anyone knows what might be happening here, then I'll provide a proper "bug report," but as of now, I can't say what the actual issue might be - any input would be extremely helpful.
Thanks!

The caster level oddity is also occurring on the live server. I don't have someone to test dispels with at the moment to check if it has similar results.
Level 21 shaman/3 ranger/3 monk casting any spell from spellbook is getting duration/effect of CL30. Rest menu's CL check also says last spell cast was CL 30.
Casting an epic spell (planar conduit, epic dragon knight) reports last spell cast as CL21.

Thanks for confirming (at least part) of the issue. I'll file a properly formatted bug report for this specific issue now that it's verified.
In the meantime, just wanted to add that I've spoken with a number of people who, anecdotally, have noticed the "Greater Dispel" seems to actually dispel significantly more spells than Mord's does.
Again, without dispel calculations being visible in the log, there's no way to confirm this (that I know of)....but if anyone out there has a way to look into this "scientifically," please let me know, I'd be happy to test.
Caster Level Being Miscalculated in Rest Log (and Possibly in General)
Posted: Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:22 pm
by Hrothgar Bloodaxe
Background:
For context, this was discovered while testing Shaman "synergy" builds against dispelling spells on PGCC. Part of what was observed was that the rest menu "Caster Level Report" was incorrectly reporting spell levels on PGCC as CL 30, even when they should not have been. As well, gauging by the duration of spells being cast from the spellbook, they were in fact being cast as level 30 spells (turns per level spells were lasting 30 minutes). Further testing seems to indicate that some variation of this issue is also occurring on the live server.

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=39350
Steps to reproduce:
- Build Shaman (21), Ranger (5), Monk (4) class. Effective CL for spellbook spells should be 26. (The specific build is not required - anything with Shaman "synergy classes" appears to have this issue on both PGCC and live server)
- Cast spell from spellbook
- Run the "CL Report" from the rest menu
Expected Result
- In the combat log, the CL from the spell cast should be CL 26
- Spell duration for turns/level should be 26 minutes
- For Planar Conduit, CL should be calculated as 26
Actual Result
- In the combat log, the CL from the last spell is reported as CL 30 when the spell is cast from the Shaman spellbook. (Both PGCC and live server)
- Spell duration is for CL 30 (spells with duration of turns / level last 30 minutes, or 60 minutes if extended - confirmed only on PGCC at this time).
- When tested with Planar Conduit, CL is listed as CL 21 when the Rest Menu report is run for the last spell cast (confirmed only on live server).
