Fey new models and their shadows (Graphical Issue)

Post by Not Umbral » Wed Apr 10, 2024 6:41 pm

Hello fellow forum lurkers, developers and gremline Fey players!

I (like you all) have been enjoying the recent changes to Fey characters, feeling like the ability to customize their appearance was sorely required to really make your individual Fey (un/seelie) character feel like your own.

And yet there are some issues with the new models given to Fey characters that I feel can be kinda immersion breaking to some (mostly me, probably, idk)

Main issue is with their shadows, while not a real mechanical issue that hampers gameplay, it is still an eyesore for some and perhaps a bit deflating towards the immersive feel of being 'consistent' (the feeling of being in the world and grounded, heh) in the world, something that is hampered by graphical issues.

Fey characters are basically just the elven phenotype (females in particular), shrunk down to match the height the seelie/unseelie are meant to be in-game, but a graphical bug renders the shadows of their boots and feet to either be non-existent, or there but they seemingly are clipping underground, only visible when you are moving. Your characters boot/foot rises from the ground to take a step, you will see the model of the character's full shadow rather than it clipping off at the ankle.

Here are some Imgur links to show the issue, I could not post the images in the post since they are too large.

The two images below show the issue a bit better with lighting, as well as displays the shadow stretching that happens with the Fey Wings, but I think this issue is more of a problem with the game and modded character models, and I do not think they are fixable (with my limited knowledge of modding and nwn/ee)

But as you see in these three images, the fey character depicted has no feet in their shadow, and they appear to be hovering kinda, which IMO is rather unappealing to look at, especially for players who relish in making their characters look exactly how they want.

I pray these issues are seen and perhaps fixed in the future, I know others that see it so it isn't a personal hardware issue as far as I'm aware.

Below is a link to a dropbox'd gif of the glitch in question if you need further examples of the bug.

I hope these are viewable, I am not good with computers so I hope my ignorance with this isn't an issue. Thank you for whoever sees this and I hope it gets more attention.

I believe this is due to how the engine renders multiple light sources which can be changed under Shadow Casting Lights.

If you go under Game Options, search "shadow" and turn Shadow Casting Lights to 1, you should end up with 1 shadow.
