i get the above message when i activate a domain power. does anyone know what this means, in plain language ?

Your piety is low. You need to raise it. When you start you get -100% piety. You can either pray or increase it by killing, disguises, plants, healing, turning bounty or crafting.

When you start, you are "godless" and you have 0% piety. When you swap gods from one to another, that reduces your piety to -100%.

Stand corrected! That must be it, you probably haven't started worshipping a deity. Its in the rest menu (3-6)

in fact, my character does have a deity, but this was on the test server (pgccc) because i wanted to test the powers of different domains. apparently piety isn't functional on the test server.

If you got the message "Your connection to the divines is not powerful enough to channel this domain's divinity." it means your character's level isn't high enough to cast the domain power.

The level requirement for casting domain power is the spell's innate levels * 2.

For example, the Fire domain's power is Meteor Swarm, which is a 9th-level spell. The cleric will need 18 levels of qualifying levels (could be 15 FS and 3 cleric or just straight up 18 cleric) in order to use the Fire domain's power.
