Aquatic Elf lore

(This is not a comprehensive resource)

Aquatic elves are an isolationist race; though the features inherent in most Elven races, that of an inherent goodliness and a certain level of arrogance and superiority.

Physically Aquatic Elves are tall, and not as thin as their land-bound kin, capable of growing to six feet tall, with long limbs suited to swimming and blue skin suited for camoflauge in Toril's ocean (though some have a greenish hue depending on location). Their most striking features however are their gills located along their ribcage and and webbed fingers and toes.

First appearing in the Great Sea (A large sea laying between Faerun and Zakhara to the south of Chult), they were the last of the elven races to migrate into Faerun; not beginning to truely settle into communities until the First Crown War, they would attempt to keep apart from the politics of their land-bound kin, unfortunately these attempts were futile, and by the fourth Crown War many aquaitc elves fled across Faerun to establish new cities apart from the wars and politicking of their kindred races. Regardless of where they fled however, the evil race of the Sahuagin followed, and many of their undersea wars were perpetuated against the fish-men of the deeps.

Aquatic Elves typically only trust their close-friends and community, though they share more with their land-bound kin then they do with most races. Despite their isolationist attitude, Aquatic Elves have started to overcome their natural tendecy towards isolationism, and have begun to open trade with their neighbors, landbound or otherwise. Societally they have a standard feudal society, with the eldest male child inheriting the territory held by their parent, though the idea of borders is very loosely defined due to the three-dimensional nature of the seas they reside in. Aquatic Elves additionally do not have a strict idea of ownership, simply taking whatever object they need at the time, though any who has decided to head onto land would swiftly discover that such ideas would swiftly result in a jail sentence.

A persistent myth amongst their race is that the Drow stole the magic inherent to their race; and as a result a universal hate of their kind has spread amongst the Aquatic Elves. Despite this many Aquatic Elves in an attempt to reclaim their lost ancestry have learned arcane magic from their land-bound kin, or in some cases even humans.
