Better Houses in Bendir Dale

Post by MintoCloudpaw » Sat Feb 11, 2023 2:46 am

Bendir Dale has a lot of issues with it's housing.

- 3 Burrows are all single room with an awkward bookshelf square that blocks non earthkin from entering (they are too tall to step inside), and a tiny little bed (earthkin might be small, but these are like halfling-children sized!). They are inconsistent in that one has a trash barrel, while the other two don't, and they have one workstation each.

Note that -makesafe inside the burrows throws you all over the place, and should be fixed.

- 1 extra sized burrow has the same issues with the top side, but is nice in that it has a big basement. However, when inside it's tricky to know which door was knocked on.
- 2 Houses that are actually fine, I think they both have a basement and top floor. A little cramped though on the main floor.
- 1 Additional burrow which I've never seen the inside of, but does have a little lakeside balcony which is nice.

All 7 hours share the same fixture space, which isn't very much when they have to provide their own workstations.

Inside Burrowhome we have:
1 Temple closet (two tiles connected to 1 tile), this is really poorly laid out and hard to do anything with. This place is just really sad.
1 room is decent, except for a giant bath and bed in the living room. It's awkwardly laid out and rather tiny.
1 room has a small entryway with seating, but a random giant cooking pot, and a raised dais. In the other room is a giant chair and giant table that are silly large in an earthkin home. The table is so big even humans can't sit at it, no matter earthkin.

Inside the Hawk's Nest is:
4 rooms that are closets (one tile) and 1 double-sized room that is decently size but has two small beds for some reason, taking up needless space.

Inside the barracks we have two closets (one tile) and an office that is two closets combined (one tile connected to two tiles).

Lastly we have a farmhouse outside of town.

-------------------
Overall, Bendir has four decent houses, seven closets, two mediocre homes and several awkwardly designed burrows. The government has actually had to /pay/ people to take some of the closets, and a lot of time people would rather be homeless than own a burrow or a room in the Hawk's Nest.

Compare the homes in Bendir to the homes in Guldorand, where most of the homes come with four rooms, a working kitchen, trash can, water, locked chest room, and a bedroom, as well as several workstations and their own map for 60 fixtures - and you can see why people aren't interested. 7 of the homes are no better than the vaults below Cordor.

The 1-3 tile rooms should really be like 9+ tiles to be worth owning a home. It'd also be nice if the homes were cleaned up to not have giant tables, giant chairs, or unusable-bookshelves spammed inside. A better layout with rooms would also be appropriate, halflings build multiroom burrows, not single room blobs with everything thrown into them.

Please make Bendir housing less depressingly sad!
