Warning to Sleep Walkers
So, my brother has gotten up in the middle of the night and done random things in his sleep since he was 17 or so. So, eight years.
The other night, he had a nightmare and decided to get up and act on that. He got up and punched his way through a double pane window and jumped out - severing the artery on his left wrist and doing some pretty serious damage on both arms and one leg. He was in surgery for about 5 hours. All in all, he almost didn't make it. He lost two units of blood by time the ambulance got to our house.
So, if you sleep walk, even if it is just something minor where you get up and walk around your house occasionally, you need to see a doctor. You wouldn't believe how occasional sleep-walking can turn into something like this. I know this type of thing is understood and heard of, but maybe I can convince someone with my brother's story.

So glad that your brother's ok, and that I don't sleepwalk!

I am glad to hear he is ok. Sleepwalking aka Somnambulism is a serious situation. some people can function for days in such a state. working their jobs talking everything including driving, you will find that there is one thing they can do normally that they can not do in a somnambulist state. ie blink with one eye.

Re: Warning to Sleep Walkers
I never thought sleep walking could be that dire, with me it's been mostly humorous.
I once stood up, went to the kitchen, grabbed a small chocolate cake, went back to the bed, threw it on the bed, and fell asleep on top of the cake. Next day I thought I had pooped myself.

Thanks for the wishes everyone!
And yes, that is what he was doing mostly. He would occasionally have a night terror and start screaming and running, but that was just occasionally. At most, he would walk in there and mumble things in gibberish before going back to sleep. Food was another thing - he'd eat n' whatnot.
The other day though? Whew.

Good luck, man. I've gone through something similar with my wife. She sleepwalks a lot, and we've had issues with her doing things like rolling down the stairs as a result. nothing as bad as falling out a window though.

Re: Warning to Sleep Walkers
I used to have an issue (it has since been resolved) where, while falling asleep, I would hallucinate, jump out of bed and freak out. It once resulted in a call to the police when I thought someone had been shining a flashlight into my room.
