Making the blade alone takes something like 30-50 hours of work. So...roughly about how long it takes to make a masterly damask sword with its insane point requirement.

Right. You want to be a medieval Frankish/Germanic swordsmith, not a Japanese swordsmith. Germanic smiths performed absolute marvels with metal (From around 800-1100 CE, the quality of the metal in their weapons they were pressing out wasn't matched elsewhere in Europe for like, 800 years); Japanese swordsmiths had to work as hard and laborously as they did because they were working with terrible quality iron.
