Stability help please!

Hello folks,
I am not necessarily great with computers, so if anyone could lend a hand, Id appreciate it.

For the past few days Ive been having a bunch of lag and crashes. It "seems" to be mostly on the surface server, but it has happened on all of them. Im thinking that its mostly likely a problem with my laptop, but how would I go about trying to troubleshoot the problem?

You may have already done this, but this is the initial checklist:

* Restart your computer.
* If you have the Steam version, verify integrity of game files (Properties -> Local files -> Verify integrity of game files).
* Make sure you don't have any resource-intensive applications going on in the background that you aren't using.

I didnt know about the verify files thing. I ran that tool and Ill see if there is any change thanks!
