New official NWN patch to allow 8 multiclasses

Post by hugolino » Thu Mar 16, 2023 5:17 pm

"A new patch for NWN:EE is being worked on, and you all are cordially invited to participate in playtesting—or just playing—using the new branch and its added fixes and features. This effort is being done entirely for personal enjoyment by community members, out of good will and with copious amounts of adhesive. This is a work-in-progress and not a full final patch release yet. "

Before anyone does exactly what they'll do by reading this thread: it has to be enabled at the module level and I doubt Arelith would implement it without major, MAJOR levels of balancing, communication, and testing periods.

Very cool for other modules out there, though. NWN2 has shown 4 class caps can make for very interesting diversity.

"Spells and spell-like abilities now display a targeting indicator displaying their range and, if appropriate, their AOE shape and size" is really nice.

This is really cool. Considering build diversity at a metalevel is fairly standard at this point it would be interesting to see what the community could come up with.

With so many custom classes, and the extent to which all are carefully balanced against each other, I almost entirely agree.

What 'might' be possible is have a select few classes permitted as a 4th class; Specialist obviously springs to mind, as does Cavalier.

I do think though, that given how optimal people like to go, even if it were possible, the opportunity cost for selecting a 4th would just be too great.

Unless...select 4th custom classes for levels 31-40 that are focused away from raw mechanical power, and do not permit the most egregious problems arising from post 30 advancement, likely to be levelled with GP rather than XP?

Hrm...

I wouldn't personally. Gold is one of things where its going to be either really easy to get en-mass, or really difficult depending on your build, playstyle and playtime. Some characters I can rack up 500k per RL day. My knowledge of the game isn't changing between characters, but my builds and expense-per-reward ratio changes dramatically based on how I play.

Some of my struggle to get past 150k in savings at all, given how fast I burn through it for supplies/gear upkeep. Encouraging leveling based on gold reserves would create a very large gap and likely encourage some of the more grindy habits of people who don't have a ton of time/want to maximize gold output. Ex: Ye Olde Quarter Auctions where people refused to release a home unless someone paid them 5 million up front.

There is a single meme character idea i would /love/ to try on arelith..this would go along way in doing it, the idea is a character concept from youtube called 'abserd'..though fixed lvl progression post 30 might be interesting
