Lights.. Camera... ActionReplay

Post by Deryliss » Sat Jun 26, 2021 6:01 pm

I'm generally not one for kudos posts, but I have to tip my proverbial hat to one of Arelith's lead devs, ActionReplay.

Not only has the sail update been a spectacular addition to Arelith, it has also been handled with constant communication and cooperation with the players. ActionReplay handles the suggestions and bug reports in a way that has built a real rapport with the players most devoted and engaged with the sailing updates. The changes have come swiftly, both in terms of hard content additions and QoL changes to make the sailing experience smooth and enjoyable, turning it from a niche side activity into something people are rolling new characters just to engage with.

We really can't ask for more, can we?

Other reasons to give ActionReplay kudos:
-Wild mages (possibly responsible for every death-by-volcano in Arelith)
-Praises the sun.
-The Zoo spell stacking change from a while back.
-Michael J. Fox portrait.
-Exploding barrels and siege weapons (again, more explosive deaths)
-Sweden, a lovely country I want to visit again someday.
-Far more things than this, and some that us mere players will likely never even know about.

Thank you for all your hard work, recent and over the years. It is very much appreciated.

Most of my fellow sailors toss a coin or a gem overboard to praise umberlee... I laugh at them on the inside and praise the real god of the seas, Action Replay.

We can! You only scratched the surface. A few years ago when I joined the team he was kind of a mentor to me, I learned a lot of stuff from him: best practices, testing/deployment, a general overview of the existing codebase (which is huge). He has been answering trainee devs' questions since the creation of the universe! A very knowledgable and fun guy to work with. I completely agree, he deserves all the kudos. :)

When reviewing Action Replay's work, or his approach to design, it is no surprise that he has a background in professsional game development.

Deryliss said it so well, but ActionReplay's work on the new sailing implementation and his openness to consider feedback and quickly iron out small bugs and implement little quality of life improvements have been an absolute treat. Truly his work is one of the reasons that got me excited about the sever again.

ActionReplay, you've done some pretty fantastic work on the sail system. I'll echo what many have said here. What was once a generic system has gone through a very positive evolution to give it some real life. Great job.

I can only 128% agree with everything that has been said here. ActionReplay, the work you have done has breathed new life into the sailing system as a whole. As someone who (just yesterday) used the "Return Ship" function and was able to sail freely - I can tell you there has been soooo many times in which I would of had to just wait for the next reset or launch some far fetched "ship recovery operation" that only had a 27% of success.

So kudos to you and all involved! Umberlee smiles upon your efforts ;)

I only recently started playing a PC who has anything to do with Sailing, but with the introduction of the sail skill, I knew I was going to have to see it for myself.

I didn't get to interact with the system much before that, but I can safely say that what I've experienced so far SINCE then, has been nothing short of amazing, and has spawned a whole subset of players very dedicated to sharing your system with one another, which has been one of the most immersive and satisfying experiences I've had yet here!

Thanks, ActionReplay. This. Is. Awesome! (Therefore, you clearly are!)
