Letters from afar

Post by Petite Investigator » Wed Jan 19, 2022 10:59 am

𝒟earest brother,

My ventures have taken me many places, and though I
have contemplated writing you a letter in the past tenday, I have only
now found the courage to do so. I hope this letter will find you as
swiftly as possible.

After leaving Ordulin I took to sightseeing a few of
the cities in our nation. I wish I could have stayed longer in Selguant,
as that was perhaps my most favorite of them all. Afterwards, I
continued my journey.

If only I could tell you more of Cormyr, alas the
weather was dreadful and I took to traveling westward as fast as my
steed could take me. Some local residents have told me I should travel
to the Sword Coast if I desire to partake in adventure and glory - their
words, not mine, though I admit I was thinking in those exact terms. If
you have been paying attention in geography, you are likely now thinking
that this is quite a journey from Cormyr, and you would be right. The
main roads, however, are oft used and quite safe, so I had no trouble
getting out of Cormyr and into the Western Heartlands.

Unfortunately, I had to part with Allie in Asbravn.
It was far more efficient to sell her than to keep her stabled for gods
know how long. And between you and me, dear brother, I did not wish to
stay in that farmer settlement any longer than I had to.

In exchange for a fair price, the local I sold it to
pointed me to a trader's caravan that was leaving. I joined up with the
guards and they accepted me as one of theirs, as the caravan makes for
Elturel, with one major stop along the way.

It is night when I write this while comfortably
sitting atop one of the wagons. Neck cramps aside, it is an interesting
life, if not a bit dull. I have been told that the roads here are safe
enough, though merchants still hire guards, more to dissuade any
would-be robbers than anything. And it works.

Selûne shines brightly tonight, as do the stars.
Daily, I pray to the gods that you are safe and healthy. You must have
so many questions for me, the one lingering the most on your mind being,
why did I have to leave. I also pray that one day you will find the
inner strength I know you have to stand up for yourself, make your own
path, one not necessarily identical to the one that mother and father
have set before you.

I promise I will answer all your questions, brother.
In due time. For now, I must be prepared for my shift. Once we make it
to Elturel, we shall sail along the River Chionthar to the city of
Baldur's Gate. I will likely not make the return trip with this caravan.
After having spoken with one of the guardsfolk, one more traveled and
far more worldly than myself, I have come to the inclusion that I will
sail the open seas. I am dreadful and reluctant about the prospect, but
first time has to come to us all. I have not yet a destination in mind,
though I am certain I could learn more of intriguing places to go once
we're in Baldur's Gate.

More to come later, I am sure. May the gods keep you
safe, brother, and may Lady Luck shine Her face upon you.
