Prologue:

Born into slavery on a ship that traveled the seas, the young boy was raised by his mother and aunt, who had been captured and sold into servitude. The mother loved her son dearly and did everything in her power to keep him safe and protected from the cruelty of the ship's crew. Astrophel's mother and aunt were forced into slavery working as invokers for the ship's captain and any of the ship's esteemed guests and clients.

The boy spent his days exploring the ship and learning about its workings from the other slaves who were forced to work the decks. He was a curious and intelligent child, and his mother did her best to encourage his natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge. While his aunt would teach and talk about what she knew about being an invoker. Despite the harsh conditions and constant danger, the boy and his mother and aunt found solace in their love for one another. They shared many moments of laughter and joy, even amidst the darkness of their circumstances.

As the boy grew older, he became increasingly aware of the injustice and cruelty of his situation. He began to dream of a life beyond the confines of the ship, where he could live free and pursue his dreams, but sadly he was being groomed to serve in the same way his mother and aunt had been all those passing years. One day, as the ship was attacked by a hoard of monsters, the boy's mother and aunt invoked spells to protect the crew but were fatally wounded. In their dying moments, the mother whispered words of love and encouragement to her son, urging him to never give up hope and to fight for his freedom. The aunt looked into the boy's watered eyes and called out to him to survive by any means necessary. In was that /moment/ yes, where he'd experience a traumatic experience.

In the chaos of everything around them, Astrophel would lose his senses as his rage and turmoil awaken a force within himself. Drawing in the last bit of life within his dying mother and aunt to call down on lightning to strike down the monsters around him. Soon after he'd black out not recalling what exactly happened that night other than his losses.

Devastated by the loss of his mother and aunt, the boy was broken and fractured mentally falling into line with the life he was born into, the life of a slave. With tears streaming down his face, the boy sailed away from his former hopes, this would lead him to falling into another state of servitude in the present day of the Underdark. . .

"A doll, a hollow vessel looking to be a channel to fulfill someone's wish, why does this somehow all sound familiar?"
