Adventures of Aerdrick and Terik

Post by Hyrland D~Kaya » Sat May 06, 2023 7:39 pm

Looming before Aerdrick and Terik, past the burning dunes and ancient alabaster spires, was the shadow of a gargantuan winged demon with a bladed tail and fierce, horned visage. The knight and his squire halted in their tracks and took cover by the ruddy, rugged cliffside to stay out of the fiend’s sight.

“Aerdrick, is that the Demon Lord Paush?” Asked Terik, clutching the handle of his Serpent’s Woe shield tighter.

“I am unsure, but we shall face it now. Let us prepare for…” Before Aerdrick could finish his sentence, bloodcurdling screams of demons erupted from all sides. “Battle!” Aerdrick’s closing word turned into a battlecry. It was an ambush.

“All will fall in glory of death!” Shouted an armored fiend as a small army of demons drew in, encircling the pair of paladins in a wall of claws, blades, and teeth.

Terik parried two, then three slashes from the demonic assault with the divine shield of Helm , but the fourth, fifth, and sixth lunges were inevitable. Despite the rending of his flesh, Terik stabbed back forcefully between his blocks and caught a balor’s gaping mouth with his holy sword. A look of surprise washed away into terror for the pathetic, skewered fiend as it caught a glimpse of its final fate in the form of a crackle of purple lightning arcing from the halberd of Aerdrick.

Using his heavily armored squire as anchor, Aerdrick slid from behind Terik’s mighty shield and launched into the air in a helical whirlwind of his arcing halberd. With a deft shifting of the weapon’s trajectory, Aerdrick kept the momentum of the halberd and cleaved through a trio of attackers in an instant. By the time Terik’s sword impaled the last clawing succubus, the chivalric duo found themselves surrounded by a score of mangled demonic remains.

Yet, the battle was just beginning. Alerted by the commotion, the gargantuan shadow begun its tremendous strides toward the paladins. The wind buffeted with gale-force and the ground trembled with each footfall of the giant fiend. The quaking of the ground came in quick succession as the demon broke out into a sprint, determined to exterminate the intruders in The Abyss!
“I am Beset-is-Creation. DIE!” The fiend roared.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Terik charged valorously with his shield before him. Aerdrick smiled and summoned the power of Torm upon his halberd as he recognized the maneuver they had practiced days leading up to this battle.

The proud demon lord brought down his tremendous spear upon Terik’s shield with thunder as soon as he came within its range. Nevertheless, the steadfastness of the Helmite kept the day’s trust. Recognizing the demon lord had taken the bait, Terik began a swift retreat with the enraged foe in pursuit. “Dip!” Shouted Terik the combat maneuver. By the time Terik reached his friend, Aerdrick was already wiping his mouth of the potion of True Strike.

Smiting strikes came in a furious succession. As Aerdrick’s flurry of mighty strikes stopped the giant demon in its track, Terik orbited around the knight to flank the demon from its side. One stroke of weapon after another, the duo of paladins chopped down the mighty tower of evil in large chunks. As the demon finally faltered on one knee, Aerdrick vaulted up over a broken boulder to deliver a decapitating strike.

As the head of the demon rolled on the burning sands of the Abyss, the pair discovered a gleaming rock formation by the nearby ruins of an ancient spire. “Adamantine, Aerdrick!” Exclaimed Terik in joy.

“To the victor goes the spoils! Let’s celebrate with some food, my friend!” Declared the Aasimar, moving a few strands of his radiant, silvery hair out of his field of vision. Guided by the prospect of a nice mutton roast and hearty ale, Aerdrick turned homeward.
