Unlock CoT alignment restrictions

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:
- implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
- the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
- the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to tweak X class.

Unlock CoT alignment restrictions

Post by Aelryn Bloodmoon » Sat Dec 27, 2014 2:24 am

"Champion of Torm" is actually a deity-specific focused variant of the prestige class "Divine Champion" from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. While "champion" typically carries a "good" connotation, "Champions" of evil and neutral deities also exist (and there is in fact no alignment restriction on the original class).

A Divine Champion fights for their deity, and may "Smite Infidels" (anyone that follows a deity other than their own).

This would open the path for more martial deity-focused characters without pigeonholing them into Paladin or Blackguard levels, both of which are very front-loaded on their bonuses.
Divine champions are mighty warriors who dedicate themselves to their deity's cause, defending holy ground, destroying enemies of the church, and slaying mythical beasts and clerics of opposed faiths. For deities that do not count paladins among their followers, divine champions fill the role of the church-sponsored warrior.
Most divine champions come from a combat or military background. Barbarians, fighters, monks, paladins, and rangers are the most common divine champions, but some of the more militant clerics and druids decide to become divine champions. Bards, rogues, sorcerers, and wizards rarely become divine champions unless they are particularly devout and skilled in warfare.

REQUIREMENTS: BAB +7, Knowledge (religion) 3 ranks, Weapon Focus in the deity's favored weapon.
Patron: Must have a patron deity and it must be the deity of which she is a champion.
Bane's tyranny is known throughout the continent, and his is the image most seen as the face of evil.
