Undercommon for gnolls

Post by Dalenger » Tue May 26, 2015 1:24 am

Suggestion:
Give undercommon to gnolls as a base language.

Reason being:

While I understand the lore behind why gnolls usually would not speak undercommon and recognise that gnolls are not underdark creatures, in the context of arelith it makes sense for PC Gnolls to start with undercommon. Our gnolls start in the UD, meaning that they most likely have spent some time in the UD, having lost their original tribe and moved to the UD as an outcast (or something similar) or their tribe was from the UD to begin. Either way, if the PC has any sort of intelligence they should have a fair understanding of the common tongue before they arrive via boat in Anundor.
Lore aside, gnolls (for the most part) will find most of their non-hostile RP in the UD. Undercommon is meant to be a barrier language between UD creatures (which in Arelith effectively includes gnolls) and everyone else. Therefore, gnolls should have undercommon.
