Unconventional Warlocks
Other than the con-based meta one, what've yall got? Archers, melees, warlock dips, etc, are all welcome.
Clerics are just socially acceptable warlocks. The devil does not need any more advocates
Re: Unconventional Warlocks
Don't dip warlock as an arcane caster. It borks your spells!
Warlock is a very hand-holdy class when it comes to building. I can only think of one or two builds that really bring out the features of the class.

Re: Unconventional Warlocks
I quite enjoyed my cha-based Greaselock. Had SF Necromancy and SF Evocation in addition to GSF conjuration, which brought the DCs of grease/fear/gust of wind all up to 30. It isn't amazing, but it's quite spammable, and if an enemy has even one low save they're in trouble. The key to this build was getting used to using the summon to engage enemies while laying down a grease field to disable them. Even with grease AoE stacking severely nerfed, having to make four DC 30 reflex saves per round will bring somebody down pretty quick. If you knew that an enemy had a weak will or fortitude save, fear and gust of wind came into play. This build obviously got more challenging in the epic levels as your own squishiness starts to count against you more and more and enemy saves started rising across the board.
I also experimented a bit with a dex-based Shadowlock (Feylock/SD) with the intent of eventually getting epic dodge, but never got the character high enough level to determine if it was very useful. I can say that it handled the early levels much more easily than a standard feylock! Dispels would, of course, have gotten to be a problem.

Re: Unconventional Warlocks
Warlock dips are fairly optimal on mages and clerics who want the laser eyes, bugs aside (There's weird spell interactions). Charisma based divine shield locks are doable to a degree, and lose less to oppertunity cost now that their DR got nerfed hard.

It's more than just weird spell interaction. Any spell that's in the wizard's spellbook that's also on the warlock list of spells (regardless of warlock level or type) is set to the CL of your bard levels.Hunter548 wrote:Warlock dips are fairly optimal on mages and clerics who want the laser eyes, bugs aside (There's weird spell interactions). So a wizard 27/Warlock 3 will cast Confusion from her Wizard's spellbook at CL 3.
I had to roll an epic character because of this. Be forewarned.

Good lord. What if you don't have the cha to cast it? Same thing?

This didn't happen to my warlock/mage. He had 12 cha, but could routinely throw around hold monsters a year ago.Wytchee wrote:Same thing. Mine was a shadow mage. The coding just... screws everything up.One Two Three Five wrote:Good lord. What if you don't have the cha to cast it? Same thing?

Quite a few things got borked with the warlock update. Feylock is pretty buggy.

Alright, torn between a couple setups here:
For a feylock, what do yall recommend-
1. EDR Warlock/Shadowdancer 5
2. EDR pure warlock
3. Cha-based Warlock/BG (Either all caster or similar to the old melee-locks)

Never, ever make a melee lock.

Both definitely true. Kind of tired of the usual 30 warlock EDR build, though.

I just worked out a feylock build that gets EDR 3, ~50 AC, GSF in Enchantment, Abjuration and Transmutation, and 600 HP. Also has a +9 Cha mod when fully geared/buffed. Interested?

I'm 99.9% sure that Warlock dipping as a wizard will not bork your spells. If you use flare, cast a wizard spell to reset your CL to it's proper #

I am 100% sure it does, having played a wizard-warlock.JediMindTrix wrote:I'm 99.9% sure that Warlock dipping as a wizard will not bork your spells. If you use flare, cast a wizard spell to reset your CL to it's proper #
Enjoy never being able to use confusion again.
Even your wizard-book hold spells do eldritch damage.
edit: let me be clear, it's not using warlock spells that bork your wizard spells. Your wizard spells are borked by default immediately upon taking the pact, without ever casting a warlock spell.

Re: Unconventional Warlocks
Did you do this on a shadow mage specifically? I wonder if the shadow mage and warlock modification poorly interacted with one another as they would modify many of the same spells.Wytchee wrote:I am 100% sure it does, having played a wizard-warlock.JediMindTrix wrote:I'm 99.9% sure that Warlock dipping as a wizard will not bork your spells. Just wondering if both your observations could be true.
Re: Unconventional Warlocks
Great build and one I might use..! Though I would think if you want to level quicker, and you might considering you're a warlock and enemies are easier to make than friends, the DEX gift probably isn't essential.Baron Saturday wrote:Human

I might actually take the bluff gift for obvious reasons, especially since it's +0 ECL. Instead of crafting I'll take gift of languages for the fun of it (and I believe, learning languages is a plus with enchanting runic gear now?) or the free +hide/MS gift to keep ECL down.
