Cleric / Loremaster. Is it viable or not? Good synergy?

As the title says.

Was thinking of rolling a new character. RPwise I was going to be making a priest of Waukeen. General gist being the most marketable and profitable thing is knowledge

That and the ability to do as much crafting, etc..

Hence the desire to try and add Loremaster.

Build wise main questions are;

  • does it even work or make sense?
  • what Cleric path would gel best?

I’m very iffy on builds on Arelith, especially as I go months in between playing. And all the new Cleric paths are very new to me, so I’m struggling to get to grips with what would work best.

Any advice?

5 levels of LM gets you 3 caster levels so it's doable especially if this is a bag of tricks character for PVE and RP and you aren't too worried about PVP.

25/5 cleric/LM is fine if you don't plan to PVP. 22/5/3 or 23/4/3 cleric/LM/dip (bard, ranger, specialist, ??) can work if you want a discipline dip but you would want to take epic defense abjuration.

You probably want cloistered or evangelist paths... There's benefits to either depending on what domains you pick, and again this is assuming you're wanting a mostly PVE character (like a caster cleric). If you want a PVP capable melee cleric that's a whole different discussion, probably doable but finicky.

Really as long as you have Planar Conduit on a cleric you can handle writs and most resource gathering no matter what else you do.

I love my crafting powerhouse build. You will never be a PVP god, but you will be a fantastic support that can hold their own ... and craft faster than any commoner could, with wands/scrolls/potions crafting coming packing into your domains.

Take your choice of Knowledge/Forge/Magic domains and Cloistered path. Forge gets you hammer of gods spam, the other is kind of a freebie though I've had fun with knowledge. Take the Artisan greater secret when you get there. You have all of the cookies and are ready to master your craft of choice like no one else can... and master commerce like a true chosen of Waukeen!

Plenty of room for sail on this build or even OL/Disarm, whatever tickles you fancy.
