(Necro Feedback) Am I Undead-ing Wrong?

Hi! So, I'm not an inexperienced player. I know what I'm supposed to do, what buffs to use, how to utilize summons effectively, etc. So this is meant to be feedback regarding undead summons, but also a question in regards to whether or not I'm missing something, here.

So I decided to make my first necromancer with the debut of shadow mages. I finally get to level 16, and giddily decide I'll give the undead a spin! They're third teir, mid-teens, right? This should be good!

N-nope.

Am I doing something wrong? Are arcane necromancers gimped in some way? I don't have foci in conjuration, but even my elder water elemental can help me solo the spires barbarians, but the mummies granted by a level 16's create undead die within the span of a few rounds, and are incredibly susceptible to being turned. They do reasonable damage, but it's still not enough to beat down most enemies in a reasonable timeframe, and an on-hit disease? When is disease ever useful in PvE when encounters last less than a turn? This is all, by the way, with two focuses in necromancy, max Endurance/Bull's, Stone Bones and a NEB burst.

Am I doing something wrong, here, or should I be regretting focusing in necromancy? For all the risk involved in wandering around with undead in tow, the payoff seems... non-existent.

They are super weak until you get Mummy Dust.

There is pretty much no point in trying to level as a necromancer, the summon creature line summons are just better than the undead you can get earlier on. This is true until you get Mummy dust for the good-ish vampires.

Having played a necromancer, I'd put the Mummy Dust vampirs a bit above "good-ish", they take a bit of micro to use well with the player tool, and if you can do that, they're pretty good. Not as amazing as the EDK, but you can have both(not at the same time), the EDK is short, and the vampires are until they die or you rest.

Mummies are baddy though!

Welp, seriously considering a rebuild, then... I don't get Mummy Dust until level 24 >.<

I also can't get into the [redacted] to change to the vampire stream because no evocation...

Out of curiosity, can you use evocation wands or scrolls despite the fact you can't use evocation?

No. No evocation from any source.

Well, that's kind of lame. All I guess I can say is "make friends," both to help you get into the Place, and to help you out in levelling until you can get Mummy Dust, which is pretty shit advice. #shar

You might be surprised how many might help you, if you simply look around and talk to others.

Until Mummy Dust, they're undertuned, yes. I'm working on an a fix for that currently.

It means no, indeed.

Dracolich is a Pale Master perk.

We've discussed avenues to make the stream accessible to others very rarely (i.e. possible, but very difficult to acquire), but I have no intention of making it readily accessible to anyone with focuses.

QFT. IMHO not restricting the EDK choice that gets buffed by Necromancy spell focuses to a single (arguably) niche class would go a long way towards not having conjuration be the single one meme spell focus of choice with all the coolest perks and best spells.
