Bridge to Minotaurs/Master - Too Many Wyverns Spawned

Post by liver and bones » Wed Apr 04, 2018 4:29 am

Had my first go across the bridge. Realized that wyverns ambush you. While usually not necessarily an issue like around Guldorand when prepared, two (which is what I faced) or more wyverns will absolutely demolish you. From high AB to requiring high fortitude saves for both their knockdown and poison effects to being in such a tight space it feels like far too much for more than one wyvern to spawn. In short, my experience was I was permanently knocked down, as one would manage to make me fail my fort roll.

I'm not sure if one wyvern was a greater/boss monster than the other, though it does possibly seem the case with the higher AB one had. Regardless, super unforgiving and unpredictable. It felt like a newb trap that can only be summed up one way - never take that bridge.

If possible, allow just one wyvern to spawn on that bridge at a time. That bridge already faces being stuffy with mobs rushing you as you go further down it.

I've noticed most Wyvern spawn triggers tend to be abit dicey - if you happen to be running the right way, or be running at the reall big model as it does the flying in animation, you seem to get stuck at a perfect point where you hit the trigger 1-2 times more, and get more wyvern procs. I've spawns 5 wyverns outside Guldorand on accident doing this, and had to get help to kill them all.

I assumed that was the case, but thought that sounded too wild because my discipline is 28. Maybe my rolls were consistently critical failures?

Does that knockdown work exactly as the literal feat knockdown does?

Wait. What?
Since when?

There was never a discipline check involved in the wing buffet. Just a plain fortitude save.
Misc Changes, with the Feats and Skills sublinks.
Available races
Spell Changes
Class Mechanics
Command Guide

Take a look before asking your questions!

All my toons with high discipline never got caught in the wyvern knockdown. my ones without it always got caught. unless they work together for that check

I've gotten knocked down on every character regardless of discipline.
Even my L30 with 60+ disc was KDed when I rolled a 1 on the Fortitude save.
(and my L20 with 40ish disc was KDed whenever I failed the save(it had too low of fort to need a 1 to fail))

Could have something to do with virtually all the classes that get discipline also being classes that boost fort save.
Plays: Durvayas(deleted), Marco(deleted), Hounynrae(NPC), Sinithra Auvry'ndal(rolled), Rauvlin Barrith(Active), Madeline Clavelle(Shelved)

Took the bait again to see if maybe I was simply unlucky. However, as originally thought, the numbers are just too wild for a place meant for low levels. 18 DC Fort, 23 DC Will, AB in the 20's for each APR. However, it's not brutal for those numbers alone, but for the fact there's two that sandwich you.

It's Fortitude, not Discipline, that is the check.

Given most high discipline characters have high fortitude as well, you may be getting confused.
