(crafted) Arch Wizards Staff

Post by Lurko » Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:31 pm

the staff is wizards only and claims it gives a +40 to UMD but since wizards do not have UMD it dose not do anything.

why would an item made for wizards have a boost that wizards can not use ?

it also seems to have boosted my spellcraft to 40 (+6 from without it) not sure why that is.

over all seems buggy but not sure just how

The +x to UMD thing on items means it requires that much UMD, not that it gives you UMD.

looking at other items they say in red this item requires an UMD skill of X to bypass

while on the staff is says additional property +40 UMD

seems confusing at the very least

The "Additional Property: UMD ??" means that in order to bypass the "Only Usable By: [Class/Race/Alignment]" item property, characters need a higher UMD score than they would for most other items.

If your character is a Wizard and you're trying to equip the Archwizard's Staff, that's not an issue because you fulfill the class requirement and thus don't rely on UMD to equip the item.

This restriction would apply if for example a rogue with 30 UMD tried to equip this staff: He's not a wizard, nor has he 40 UMD to bypass the item's (increased) UMD requirement, even though 30 UMD lets him use many other items with a similar value just fine. Thus he cannot equip the staff, unless he raises his UMD skill further.
