Portal & Greenstone Deposit At Cordor Frontier

Post by No Prison Can Cage Your Soul » Mon Aug 03, 2020 3:18 pm

I had a mishap earlier that made me consider some feedback!

When mining the greenstone deposit using burning hands (since the other infinispells can't target resource nodes for some reason) I accidentally hit someone arriving by the portal due to how close the deposit was to the portal.

I had taken care to direct the cone away from the portal, but it seemed to hit/hostile them anyway even though the visual effect for the cone didn't touch the portal at all.

These two points could probably stand to be separated from each other a little bit, both to avoid people just popping in to grab greenstone, and to prevent future mishaps of people mining the gems hitting someone arriving through the portal unintentionally.

Using a cone of fire to harvest a deposit surrounded by trees is a bad idea, to begin with. Only you can prevent forest fires.

Is there not tools you can use to mine resources?
I'm pretty sure they allow you farm them quick and even offer some benefits to those that don't have high strength like wizards.

Burning hands is a REALLY slow way to harvest, and I'd highly recommend against using it (speaking from experience here).

Yes, they overcome the DR of the node and give a +5% chance to harvest the the material. Additionally, they count as bronze weapons, so you can throw two +1d4 damages (fire, cold, or acid) at the basin and then use an essence for the third to mine very quickly. My wizard can get through even high tier nodes in not a lot of time.

They definitely do not overcome the DR of the node. The gem node in the Darrowdeep Barrows wasn't even tickled when I swung a gem hammer at it. I think it was sapphire or topaz.

That SHOULD have been added when the new wood types were added on March 2nd.

Logging Axe works on Rare Hardwoods, Ancient Yew, and Ancient Zurkwood properly.

Additionally - All resource mining tools will be more effective against resources that have damage reduction.
If it's not fixed, it's probably a bug.

The gem hammer does work, in my experience, but it doesn't report its hidden "bonus damage" from being a specialized tool. It does still give very good yields even on rare deposits, even though it only reports 1 or 2 damage per hit.

They do NOT overcome the hidden DR. You must do at least 1 actual point of damage for the 'secret' damage to trigger.

This has been tested extensively.

Solution: Enchant the tool with fire or acid damage (essence or basin).

A tool so enchanted will strip a node with 6 swipes even if its being wielded by a str 6 wizard :D

The problem is, you take equipment damage for this.

The real solution is to keep a summon creature spell handy just for node-bashing. If you can afford the 6th level slot, that's perfect. I've not tried wanding summon creature 4 for it, that might work too.

It works, but it's slow as heck. I use 6th circle slaadyboi for it.
