Non-good special nodachi is a /bit/ out of balance
This new weapon is a bit much.
We're really going to give this to already overpowered div/dexer classes with divine might/shield, blinding speed and 60AC?
At least the non-evil requires a once a reset item to create along with the extra damage being mostly situational.
I mean look at this:
Attack Bonus: +4
Damage Bonus: 1d8 Bludgeoning
Damage Bonus: Acid 1d8 Damage
Damage Bonus: Negative 1d8 Damage
Keen
Useable by: Non-Good
Increased UMD Requirement (30)
T3 Iokhoric Rune
UMD 30? So literally every dex/div build can get this. This is ridiculous,
I'm sorry. I would be cool with it if there were like, ONE of these in the game. Essentially this is giving away free masterwork blade runes for the cost of a few ingots and crafting points.
+3
1d6 bludgeoning
1d4 negative
1d4 acid vs whatever
UMD 50
either keened or runed. But certainly not both.
I mean am I the only one seeing this as ridiculously overpowered?

30 UMD + Exotic (1 Feat). From what I read Divine Dex is pretty feat starved.
Re: Non-good special nodachi is a /bit/ out of balance
Seems pretty op to me.
Re: Non-good special nodachi is a /bit/ out of balance
Div/dex builds haven't been doing that great since the nerf to divine shield, this is also the last weapon they'd want to use considering that their high power came from 70+ AC and edodge making them nearly impossible to hit while taking advantage of huge damage from sneak attacks if their opponent ever tried to ignore them. Dropping a shield and losing out on 6/7 AC just isn't on the cards for those archtypes. (They're also utterly feat starved)
It's a nice weapon that enables a few niche builds, but dex builds are in a pretty bad place outside of... one? It's still playing second fiddle to any keened falchion purely because of how much of a big deal the extra crit range is.

I hate that this kind of feedback and argument is usually made entirely in a vacuum or about a situation so bizarrely specific that it’s almost never going to happen on Arelith.
It’s well-balanced. The finesse is what makes it a special weapon type.

Attack Bonus: +4
Damage Bonus: 1d6 Bludgeoning
Damage Bonus: Sonic 1d10 Damage
Damage Bonus vs.: Lawful 1d4 Pierce Damage
Massive Criticals: 1d8 Damage
Use: Freedom of Movement (7) 2 uses/day
Keen
Only Usable By: Chaotic
Increased UMD Requirement (30)
What about this greatsword, is this strong too? Difference here is nodachi requires an exotic feat. It's good to see another 2h that gives you a reason not just default pick up a falchion.

Honestly, these weapons are a fantastic mix because they are giving people viable options to make some interesting RP around a different kind of weapon.

Of all the recent releases for there to be balance-related complaints about, I didn't expect the beef to be with a weapon for 2H Dex.
If the greatsword posted above is fine, I'm not sure why the special nodachis aren't.

This nodachi offers 12 average physical and 4 average acid and 4 average negative damage. With a bless weapon scroll you can bump the average physical to 15.
The elemental damage is entirely negated 62.5% of the time with defensive essences. Threat range is 15-20.
A masterly damask falchion that's keened is 11 physical on average by 12-20.
In other words, you're trading 4 extra damage for a 15% lower chance to critical chance. Nodachi does come out superior for DEX builds, but it's definitely weaker when you account for divine might and how much STR you can pump out.
EDIT: Bonus damage got reduced to 1d4. Now it's an average of 13.

As from my discord math earlier for the averages:Good Character wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 3:18 amThis nodachi offers 12 average physical and 4 average acid and 4 average negative damage. With a bless weapon scroll you can bump the average physical to 15.

1d8 averages 4.5, cut tail outside crit, 4
4 physical
4 acid
4 negative
3d4 averages (((4*3)+3)/2) so 7.5 cut tail 7
7+4+4+4 is 19.
2 of those 4's wiped by essences on the average.
11 damage.
If it crits x2:
1d8 averages 9
9 physical
9 acid
9 negative
3d4 averages 15
1d4 is 5/2 is 2.5 is 7.5 total on 3d4 is 15 on crit
15+9+9+9 is 38
2 wiped of 5 damage is 28 total on crit.
In Summary, Not including any bonuses sourced from off the weapon/added to it:
Average Non-Crit damage: 11 Damage.
Average Crit damage: 28.

Re: Non-good special nodachi is a /bit/ out of balance
Thread goes from “a bit out of balance” in the title to “ridiculously overpowered” at the end of the thread, at least be consistent in the assessment if no statistical analysis and numerical comparison to other unique crafts are going to be offered.
That said, there is a planned damage output reduction of 1d8 bludgeon to 1d4 slashing (retroactive) for the non-good variant. 1d8 piercing to 1d4 piercing for the non-evil variant (retroactive).
I will say though, div dex with epic dodge shouldn’t be the focal concern here as many others have pointed out, but str swashbucklers which can utilize nodachis the most.

Re: Non-good special nodachi is a /bit/ out of balance
Like Kenji said, the weapon class by and large isn't even that great for dex, because the main draw of 2h weapons is the increased bonus damage from strength.
