Information on Polls

Post by Dunshine » Fri Sep 08, 2017 8:14 am

We're adding this subsection as a boon for Patrons, they can create polls in here. Irongron will write up some guidelines for this section soon.

This is a try-out for now.

Poll Guidelines

Polls can be created only by patrons. They will not affect the work of the development crew.

1. They are not be used to directly influence developers or the direction of the server

Questions such as 'What should be worked on next?' or 'Which settlement would you liked removed?' are not okay. It's fine to have things like 'favourite race/settlement/class'

1a. Neither should they be used in combination with posts in Suggestions.

Polls shouldn't be used to try to gain any traction on a particular suggestion. All players, patrons or not should have their suggestions equally weighted, and suggestions are not taken up by staff depending on their overall popularity.

2. No loaded questions

All questions should be phrased as neutrally as possible, along with possible answers. This rules out loaded questions such as 'What is wrong with x?' or 'Why is Y a problem?'

3. No veiled criticism of staff or players.

Keep it friendly, I do not wish to see polls used as vehicle to criticise the RP of others, or the work of specific developers

4. Keep it light

This is intended to be a fun feature. If you think your poll may lead to general upset or charged conversations please reconsinder before posting them.

5. No 'comedy' polls.

What one person may find amusing another may find a needless irritation. Polls intended merely to raise a laugh may have the opposite effect, and effectively function as forum spam, wasting the time of those who open them.

6. Developers and DMs should not make polls.

This is PURELY for patrons, and should not be used as a tool for staff members.

----------------------------

I will probably add to this as we go on. I have been considering forum polls as a perk for patrons for some time, but naturally had some misgivings. Currently this is trial period for this feature, and may be discontinued after 4-6 weeks.
