Feylocks and RTA's

Post by Aren » Mon Nov 09, 2020 11:40 am

Preface:
I wholeheartedly believe that warlocks wielding +15 darts was incredibly bonkers broken, and that they shouldn't be able to use those items for that kind of AB.

However, the recent changes that removed a possible + 5 weapon enhancement bonus from the ranged touch AB calculations, has effectively given any build +10 dex against feylocks and fiendlocks. This is especially painful against high dodge AC builds. While fiendlocks have several ways to deal with dodge AC targets: Ice Storm, Darkness, Balagarn's, the fiend summon etc., a feylock however, effectively cannot hit the target, unless they flat foot themselves and don't have uncanny dodge, and even then it is still a stretch. Furthermore, if the target is correctly geared - you are fishing for 1's on will saves, even after Mindfog. And if they are monks, you cannot hurt them at all. Seeing as the target can safely apply and reapply mindblank / clarity as needed from behind their dodge AC without care, combat against such targets become a tedious game of attrition, in which you spam breach wands / G-dispel against the opponents UMD stash - not unlike trying to defeat someone with 100 heal potions in their bags.

I implore the balance team / developers to reconsider the changes, and reinstate the AB bonus from weapons in the ranged touch attack calculations, but cap it at a max +5 AB to avoid abuse of the gimmicky +15 items.
