Augustin 'Gus' Dish's Guard Retirement Kudos
As a few of you have picked up, Augustin Dish has retired from the guard. At such a transformational period for the character I figured it would be good to do a long delayed kudos thread. I have played this character... far too much already, so I am probably going to forget quite a few people along the way. This thing is going to be huge, so I'm going to be updating it along the way.
The Guards
Nehala Rein: Originally I wasn't planning to make Gus a guard. Nehala single handedly changed that and inspired Gus by showing him what a guard could be. The way she cut down banites and dragons alike only helped further the point. It was sad to see you go, and I do regret that we didn't have another jam session in the nomad.
Cev Dan'ethe: I really enjoy Cev, and I like the... conspiratorial sneakiness that you brought to the role of guard commander. It was something different than what I expected from guard characters, and I loved the way you would hit various nobles with calculated insults. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of your plots turn out.
Also, the two of you were adorable. Obviously Gus needs a shoulder elf of his own.
Seel'Melaa Starlock: Gus: Seel No!. Seel: Seel Yes! While Gus often disagreed with Seel's actions, he had to respect both Seel's seemingly unending passion, and the lengths that Seel would go to to protect his friends. Even if that meant that Gus had to clean up the resulting messes. It actually broke Gus a bit to be on the receiving end of Seel's anger during the whole Kellarn mess.
Celestia Merlin: Gus had generally concluded that during her length of service in the guard Celestia Merlin had become paranoid and distrustful of most everyone around her. With growing horror Gus started to realize that at least in some cases Celestia wasn't actually wrong about people. Without a doubt one of the hardest workers the guard had, and watching her specifically try and piss off criminals was hilarious. She also makes for a frightening dragon.
Azaria Selakir: Your character is a delight, and I enjoy how you try and navigate a few different conflicting moralities and tried to make it work in the context of the guard as a whole. Dish still carries a wound from your disappointment with the whole Kellarn mess and I think has been trying to patch things up ever since. Probably my favorite moment though was getting was getting to try and pep talk/flirt with Azaria with the line "You are a gods damned avenging angel, of course people tremble in fear at the sight of you."
Leon: I really like how thoroughly you have gone into rping Leon's blindness, and how much he manages to do despite it. Leon was probably one of Gus's favorite recruits, and we still need to get Leon a dedicated scribe to write up reports for him.
The Tower
Astra Starlock: The first real mage that Gus met in the tower, and one that Gus kept going back to for wisdom, advice and suggestions on how to continue his research. When Gus switched over to doing guard stuff more or less full time, Astra was always someone he could rely on to help him complete whatever task was at hand.
Jacob Swift: If Gus had never gotten involved with the guard, he likely would have been following you around like a second shadow. Your whole necromatic surgeon / mad doctor rp, that's one of my favorite themes ever. I loved that one scene where Dish was just taking notes on the whole surgical session and getting to ask questions about potential flaws in the procedure. Later meetings, though scarce were also pretty great, especially that one bit with the teeth.
Paddy: I don't know what it is about Paddy, he just strikes Gus as the coolest of the mages. It could be his mannerisms or the way he talks, his awesome head of hair, or some attitude thing? I don't know, Gus would like to find out more about Paddy and also learn more from him, the bits of information on Limbo and devil binding were especially fascinating.
Jadoth: At first Dish thought Jadoth was shady and suspicious, and a bit emotionally unstable. But now well... Dish thinks that Jadoth is shady and suspicious and emotionally unstable... but with reasons! I suspect in the end that Jadoth and Dish's agendas are surprisingly in line, but there are still many mysteries to unravel with the elf. Also Gus is a bit sad that he never got the chance to ask Jadoth to dance at the Gala.
Angela: Not gotten as much of a chance to interact with Angela as I would have liked. But what I have seen so far has been cool, the idea of a magical expert relearning magic again and finding all new aspects of it, well it is an absolute joy to watch, and Dish still needs to find out more of Angela's thoughts on divination, as well as stories about his grandfather.
Fell: I haven't seen this character around in a long while, but Fell was Dish's tower buddy, both of them joined at the same time, and they helped each other with their research papers (often to Fell's detriment). Dish was crushed when Fell got murdered right in front of him in Cordor, and credits the event with his decision to become more martially focused.
Nobodies
Sybil Aseph: Sybil might well be one of my favorite characters on the server. Her secrets, her goals, the way she sets out to accomplish things and just everything Sybil. I really enjoy just how you have been playing Sybil's limitations, and how that seems to seep into every part of her psyche. There are so many hidden depths to the laundry basket and I find myself always wanting to know more. She is also probably the worst person for Gus to try and pursue romantically, which might be exactly why he is attempting to anyway. That or the veils.
Helen: Helen is absolutely terrifying, and Gus isn't entirely sure what to make of her. There are moments when he thinks that Helen might be one of his closest friends, like the time she saved Gus's birthday party, and there are other moments where she has given Gus heart attacks and he has silently thought to himself. "Welp, this is the moment where I die." Constantly guessing between the two extremes has been a lot of fun.
Halfdan: I've not gotten much of a chance to interact with Halfdan, but I have to say, you have the best fighting emotes that I've ever seen on this server. Watching you fight monsters is an absolute joy, and I think myself at best an amateur next to your combat rp. Hell, you have even made me feel bad for the undead you have mercilessly crushed.
Evita: Evita is one weird druid, who Gus doesn't really understand, but is starting to respect at least. He is starting to guess at her motives, largely based on her actions, and has so far been impressed.
Ruigardt: Ruigardt has the bad habit of always showing up when Dish complains about either Helmites or Paladins, and manages to politely take apart Dish's entire argument, and is probably one of my favorite Helmite Paladins on the server. Also Ruigardt's poetry is amazing, and I would love to hear more.
Urdin Taggul Urdin is probably my favorite magistrate, and I like how so very thorough she takes things. The apparent timidness is also well roleplayed, but I enjoy it just as much when Urdin is backed into a corner and actually starts lashing back. Probably one of the best lawyer characters on the server, even if she likes to hide behind people.

Gus is a great character! Hopefully, we can interact some more in the future now that my [video card enforced] exile from Cordor is over.
Sing for the tears.

Gus is one of my favorite guard characters I've ever interacted with. He's a balance of politeness and sternness, mercy and force, and behind the uniform he's an interesting, relatable, well-rounded character.

I agree, he's very well rounded and also very calculative on when to take risks!

For the moment I was afraid Augustin had been rolled when I read the title.
While Wotan had few short moments with Dish, (mostly in the Kellarn-play) I've found him as very interesting character.
Glad to have half-orcs who're not cliche like dumb or aggresive for a change. Totally need to RP more.

:'D Gus is definitely one the funner Half-orcs I've plaid with on Astra (Don't worry Mud your on that list too!)
I'm also glad Astra is someone he can go to for wisdom, her character is meant to be that of someone that inspires others, even if that doesn't shine all the time. Hopefully, they'll get more talking time together! Specially if he becomes the acting chansoller.

I'm weeping thanks. I'm always really touched when people notice the effort and depth I put into my characters so it means a lot that you enjoy my Sybil! Gus has made playing Sybil fun and made it easier for her to go out and be adventurous.
I love gus. We will totally do [REDACTED] sometime.

Gus is amazing to be around and is a wonderful character to roleplay with. Xun'sali values their friendship very much.
